Celebrating learning through Chemical Science: P-1
This term P-1 students have been exploring
and experimenting with everyday food items
and what happens when they are heated or
cooled down.
Students have experienced working
collaboratively in small groups to predict,
observe and explain their observations.
P-1T working collaboratively to find out what
happens when chocolate is left in the sunshine…
Celebrating learning through Chemical Science: 2-3The year 2-3 students have been working collaboratively
to distinguish between solids, liquids and gases. They
have been developing their written and verbal
communication skills as they describe their thinking and
wondering.
Through experiential learning, students have engaged
their senses to observe and describe changes in
materials resulting from adding and removing heat. They
have discovered the different melting and freezing
points of everyday foods and materials.
2-3A working together to figure out what happens
when we add heat to everyday items.
Celebrating learning through Chemical Science: 4-5
The year 4-5 students have been
undertaking experiments to explore and
discover the properties of solids, liquids
and gases.
Over the last two weeks, students
developed a “What am I?” game to
demonstrate their knowledge and
understanding of the three key states of
matter which they then challenged their
friends to solve!
Celebrating learning through Chemical Science: 6
Throughout this term, the year 6 students were actively
involved in undertaking experiments to allow them to
delve deeper into the world of chemical science.
Students worked effectively in collaborative learning
groups to predict, observe and explain their
investigations.
Over the last few weeks, students worked in teams to
undertake two investigations involving chemical
reactions and were able to predict, reason, observe and
explain their results through images, dialogue and text.
Celebrating learning through Chemical Science: 6
This term in art we have been focusing on our paper and collage skills. The children have been creating works of art based on Harmony Day.We made paper chain people and collaged them with paper.
We have been developing our skills in
collaborating and working in teams to
create art murals for Harmony Day.
Easter ArtWe used patterns and lines to decorate our Easter eggs. We drew the Australian Bilbyand included him in our Easter art work.

ITALIANOThe year prep & 1 Students are working on greetings and answering two questions about themselves. This is what we have been working on. Buongiorno. Come ti chiami? Mi chiamo _____Come stai?
Sto bene
Sto cosi`cosi`
Sto male
Here are 2 students in the prep 1 area greeting each other.
We learned two songs this term.
Buongiorno a te and Ciao Buongiorno.
This is Prep/1V singing Ciao Buongiorno.
Year 2/3
In the year 2/3 area our goal has been to learn how to make numbers beyond 20. In order to practise, students played games and completed “Matematica” activities.
Year 4/5The goal for the Year 4/5 students this term has been to know how to write the date in Italian.
In order to achieve this goal the students have worked on learning numbers, the days and the months of the year.
They have learnt the rule and applied it in oral and written activities.
The year 4/5O class were told to place themselves in one of 3 groups. Apprendista(apprentice), professionista (professional), esparto (expert) based on how well they have learnt how to say and write the date. This is a photo of how students placed themselves.
Year 6In the year 6 team we are learning to answer questions about ourselves.
Come ti chiami?, Quanti anni hai?
Quando e`il tuo compleanno?, Come sono i tuoi occhi?, Come sono i tuoicapelli?, Come sei?, Come non sei?, Quale colore ti piace?, Quale colore non ti piace?
The students will use these questions to do an oral presentation and to write a letter to fellow students at Brunswick South West Primary School.
Term 1 – Celebrating Learning in 4/5
AIP Goal #1: To enhance learning growth and
outcomes for every student in numeracy and
reading
We have been working with
students to help them reflect
on their learning and areas of
need in both reading and
numeracy. They have self-
selected goals in both areas
and engaged in activities to
help them to achieve!
By selecting goals in
numeracy we were able to
engage in targeted activities
in small focus groups.
We begin each reading
session with ‘read to self’ to
work on our goals and
increase our stamina. As you
can see with Noah and
Matthew, sometimes what
we’re reading is too good not
to share!
AIP Goal #2: To enhance student engagement in their
learning
During Inquiry we have been
working collaboratively to
research topics of our own
interest and develop
information reports and
presentations.
Some final reports from 4/5O.
We’ve loved engaging in our
own interests sparked from
our “First Fleet” inquiry unit!
AIP Goal #3: To enhance a positive learning culture for
students, staff, parents, carers and community
This term, in the 4/5 Learning Neighbourhood we have been
learning about the power of positivity! We have been learning
about how practicing gratitude not only makes others happy
but also ourselves. We’ve also investigated how kindness
can change the world. We asked ourselves, what can I do to
empower someone with kindness and what is an attainable
goal I can follow to improve myself or my life?
Our ‘Gratitude and
Happiness’ wall. We each
wrote three things we are
grateful for.
Declan, Lexi, Yianna, Lucy and Tom
sharing their ‘power of kindness’
reflections. Yianna wrote: “I want to
make myself proud. I want to
completely BOOST my confidence. It
will change my life by making me
feel like I belong in this world.”
6T and 6M
In Year 6 we have been enhancing learning growth and
outcomes for every student in numeracy and reading by
thinking about our goals and in our awesome Literacy
and Numeracy sessions!
We have been receiving
feedback from the teacher
about our literacy and
numeracy concepts and
identifying what elements
of these we need to work
on. Once we finish
analyzing this, we will be
transferring this on to goal
setting templates.
We have been reading
every day and completing
comprehension activities
to support our learning.
This is one of the books
the year 6s are reading
using the strategies Read
to Self and Read to
Someone and in reading
groups!
We have also been enhancing student
engagement by learning about the values!
We have been
learning and
practising our
school values
through learning
about them directly
and then applying
them in activities in
maths and sport.
For example, we
learnt about
respecting and
caring about
people’s needs and
applied this in
maths and sport
games.
Cultural diversity week was a
lot of fun and it reminded us
of the importance of
accepting everyone for who
they are, to ensure we treat
each other kindly and do not
bully others.
We have been enhancing a positive learning
culture for students, staff, parents, carers and
community!
We have been having a ball with summer interschool
sports! Many parents and carers have been supporting our
year level by coaching us and cheering us on during
interschool sports practice and the games. On Cultural
Diversity Day we had an amazing picnic with the
parents/carers, teachers, students and staff on the oval.
Will’s dad, Anthony, and the
basketball boys team at one
of the interschool sport home
games.
Term 1 – Celebrating Learning in P/1
AIP Goal #1: To enhance learning growth and
outcomes for every student in numeracy
Reading goals for students:- Use a range of reading strategies including eagle eye, lips the fish, stretchy snake and skippy frog, - Link letters and sounds
Maths goals for students:- Match a number of
objects with numerals- Understand that teen
numbers are made up of one ten and a number of ones.
Students also looked at ways
to collect and represent data.
Students formed a question
What is your favourite colour?
and created a pictograph to
display the data.
AIP Goal #2: To enhance student engagement in their
learning
Students participated in
hands on, creative tasks
which explored letter
formation, letter sounds.
Students worked very
hard to improve their
handwriting.
Students read a variety
of books from which
they compared and
contrasted the
settings/characters of
the stories.
AIP Goal #3: To enhance a positive learning culture for
students, staff, parents, carers and community
.
Opportunities for parent engagement with student learning, programs and events include:-Family Picnic-Family Meet and Greet Evening- Harmony Day Picnic-Bully Zero Seminar
Students had the
opportunity to participate
in a variety of activities on
Harmony day. This also
involved working with the
year 6 students.
Term 1 – Celebrating Learning in 2/3
AIP Goal #1: To enhance learning growth and
outcomes for every student in numeracy
During Term 1, students have been working closely on their collaborative skills among a number of topics, including their current Maths investigation of chance and during reading groups. Here are some of 2/3’s collaborative
skills at work…
AIP Goal #2: To enhance student engagement in their
learning
Students in 2/3 very
much enjoyed
celebrating Harmony
Day last week,
spending the day
exploring the
meaning of cultural
diversity across a
range of school wide
and cross-age
activities.
AIP Goal #3: To enhance a positive learning culture for
students, staff, parents, carers and community
As part of our ‘Community’ inquiry topic this term, students
were asked to participate in a ‘Kids At Work’ day. Parents and
carers were invited to attend a parade, where students proudly
displayed a wide variety of careers and the ways they contribute
to our safe and happy community.
Harmony Day – Thursday 22nd March
Speeches from students in

Speeches from students in year 2/3
Dear Ms Gray and 2/3T,
Today I would like to tell you about what belonging means to me. I live in a place that I love. I belong in the 2/3A environment and you belong in the 2/3T environment. Belonging is when you like a place and you feel happy, relaxed, not lonely, and safe and clam there. I am part of the Moreland City Council community. I belong in the community of Australia. I want you to belong where I belong.
From,
Sebastian.
Belonging is a feeling of positivity.
When we feel like we belong, we feel
safe, happy, accepted and like we are
included. I am a part of the 2/3T
community. In this community,
everyone thinks and learns together
and individually. We listen to whoever
is speaking with our whole body. In
2/3T, everyone belongs! - Taylah
