Cumulative Grade Point Average is computed by dividing the

sum of the products of the number of credits of all the courses

followed and the grade points earned for those courses by a

student by the total number of credits of the courses followed

up to that point of time by that student.

GPA Requirements for the Award of Degrees

Every student should maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or

above subject to no more than one D level score per semester in

the first year only, for the award of the diplomas or the degrees.

Students will be awarded academic honours at degree level as

follows:

CGPA 3.50 - First Class Honours

3.25 < CGPA < 3.50 - Second Class Honours Upper Division

3.0 < CGPA < 3.25 - Second Class Honours Lower Division

2.0 < CGPA < 3.0 - Pass

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction of all degree and

diploma programmes is English.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

<

Grade Point Average (GPA) per semester

GPA is computed by dividing the sum of the products of the

number of credits of each course followed and the grade points

earned for that course by a student by the total number of

credits of the courses followed during the semester by that

student.

For example, if a student has followed 5 courses of 4 credits

each and has scored grade points of 4.0, 3.0, 2.3, 2.0 and 1.7

respectively, his GPA is computed as (4x4.0 + 4x3.0+ 4x2.3 +

4x2.0 + 4x1.7) / (4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4) = 2.6

Regular attendance in classes is expected

from all students. In any case 80%

attendance is necessary as a requirement to

sit examinations.

Inability to attend classes and / or

examinations must be brought to the notice

SLIIT Research facilities

Research and Development Facilities

As a leading tertiary educational institute in Sri Lanka,

research is an integral part of SLIIT. We strive for a vibrant

research culture and numerous initiatives are in place for

promoting research among the academic and student

communities. Integrating research methodology to

undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, establishing a

research centre to carry out research work, the SLIIT research

grant scheme are all meant to promote research.

Research methodology is a compulsory module for all

postgraduate and undergraduate programs at SLIIT. This

aims to inculcate skills to acquire new knowledge which is

of paramount importance in the field of Information

Technology where the body of knowledge grows

exponentially. All students complete a comprehensive

research project under the guidance of SLIIT staff members.

Generally undergraduate students work in groups to fulfill

this compulsory requirement while masters students take up

individual projects.

The SLIIT Research Centre, overseen by a committee of senior

academics/researchers, provides facilities to carryout staff

and student research. It brings together researchers of various

disciplines related to IT and its applications from SLIIT and

outside. The annual SLIIT Research Symposium normally

held in December is the showcase of research activities, not

only confined to SLIIT but open to other researchers of the

region as well. The five best research projects from both

undergraduate and postgraduate categories are presented at

this symposium. The SLIIT Research Symposium is open to

any institution actively involved in research in IT and allied

disciplines.

As for research by academics the latest initiative is providing a

substantial research grant scheme. All academics are clustered

into a research team headed by a senior researcher. The senior

researchers as the principle investigators are eligible for the

SLIIT annual research grants. These grants can be freely

utilized for research related purposes such as accessing useful

research resources (e.g. on-line journals) and participation in

conferences. Last year, SLIIT academic teams published four

journal papers and, 16 conference papers in international

conferences.

SLIIT ALUMNI Success Stories

It was a wonderful and a memorable experience to study at SLIIT.

From the beginning to the end of my Bachelor's Degree studies, SLIIT

has guided and equipped me with invaluable experience and knowledge

to deal with the future challenges of the emerging IT industry.

I completed my Curtin Degree at SLIIT. SLIIT helped me to develop my

professional abilities and attitudes which I needed to be a successful IT

Professional. At SLIIT classes were conducted by highly competent

lecturers and they assisted me in numerous ways during my studies.

The library at SLIIT provided me with a comprehensive range

After completing my Advanced Level at school, I was passionate to study Information

Technology. Besides, IT profession encompasses many aspects of Computing and Technology;

it has a wide scope of career opportunities. Therefore, I enrolled at SLIIT as an undergraduate

student in Information Technology. I knew that this path would eventually lead me to a promising

career and open doors to many opportunities such as studying in Australia. I chose to complete

my final year at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, which gave me the opportunity to divert

my studies in to more interesting and demanding areas of Information Technology. In 2004, I

graduated with a Bachelor degree in Information Technology and Systems earning a double

major from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia.

Currently I am working in Western Australia as an IT Incident Management Controller for the

Bank of Western Australia. (An entity of HBOSA, one of the world's largest financial services

organisation) Here I am reaching my career goals and advancing my career opportunities

by being appointed as one of the HBOSA IT Value Monthly Winners. I was nominated for high

performance in leadership, courage and integrity. I believe that I managed to achieve all these

as a result of education and skills I gained at SLIIT. Therefore I’d like to express my sincere

gratitude t o SLIIT, the foundation of my successes.

I stepped on to the new millennium with a heap of expectations. With the ambition

of fulfilling these expectations, I joined the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.

Today, as I look back on those four years, I do not regret my decision since SLIIT

has given me the perfect background to broaden my knowledge through proper

guidance and by getting exposure to the latest technologies. With several degree

programs on offer, SLIIT caters to the demands of IT professionals with a positive

attitude and a success oriented approach.

Last but not least it is a great pleasure to express my sincere gratitude to all the
