The Sopcawind project aims at developing a new service

achieved through the development of a software tool for

optimal wind farm design based on a large and

heterogeneous set of digitalised data containing information

from different fields (wind climate, geography, environment,

archaeology and land ownership), that will be treated,

validated, standardised and converted to this end.

The installation of wind farms has grown sharply in

recent years, and is expected to continue this increasing

trend due to the Governments' concern with the global

climate change and environmental awareness.

Sopcawind optimizes the location of windfarms by

considering several criteria such as wind power, local

environment characteristics, potential interference on

communication systems, visual impact or the existence of

archaeological sites.

Two main services will be developed during the project::

• The Sopcawind Data Pool for consulting processed

data stored in the system and• The Sopcawind Tool for windfarm optimization.
