This class will focus on how the new features of Revit 2013 can improve efficiency and productivity in the design process. During this class and simultaneously from two locations across the globe, we will uncover the secrets of how Revit 2013 can be used in all phases of Interior Design. Using an actual project we will walk you through how to use view templates more productively, utilize materials for your LEED requirements and how to use the visualisation and graphics tools together with an integrated workflow to other Autodesk software like Autodesk 3D Studio Max. This class will also illustrate that by combining products such as Autodesk 360 and Citrix, collaboration workflows with other offices around the globe are increasingly more productive

In AutoCAD, clean up the backgrounds by deleting all unnecessary elements. a) Run an Audit and Purge on the drawing. b) If there is any demo work to be done, make sure that all the elements to be demolished are isolated and placed on layer called A-DEMO. c) If the origin (0, 0, 0) is far (more than 100’) from the plan graphics, move the graphics near the origin. d) For multiple background data (i.e. RCP, Power/Data) link into views separately. e) Sort elements into correct layers if necessary. f) Verify drawing units. If requested to scale objects, select no. 2. Export the file to a generic AutoCAD format to remove all AEC object data. a) Use File->Export to AutoCAD from the file menu. Rename the file so you know which one you edit for import.

You want a template that is built for a interior test fit process. This includes views, families, and levels ready to go. We have developed different methods for doing test fits using the same template. If is a good practice to have some understood worksets so that after the model has been prepared your users are familiar with a standard set of worksets.

Make sure that your active workset is set to a specific workset for the imported CAD file. Link the AutoCAD background in to a view specific for importing. Use the following information to correctly link your background: • Select Black and White for Colors • Visible for Layers • Auto-Detect for Import Units • For Positioning, but sure to choose Auto – Origin to Origin.

Setting up model with existing conditions Ready to Add Content to the Model

Now that your background is loaded you are ready to start adding content. Do not bother with adding walls at this point, simply use room separation lines to mark your building perimeter and building core elements. After you have done some preliminary space planning you can add a higher level of development to your model by replacing the room separation lines with walls.

Multi-Scheme Approaches

Many times you are doing more than one idea for a layout. Here are a few different ways of working to produce those ideas. • Worksets • Segregate Backgrounds by Level • Duplicate Backgrounds on Same View • Revit Design Options • Separate model files for each option.

a. Use worksets to manage content in options b. Use one workset per option Advantages: Similar procedure to other interior projects, more organized. Limitations: Requires discipline and effort to manage worksets, duplication of views, additional parameter input and filters for correct scheduling.

a. Distribute multiple AutoCAD base plans b. Organize by levels Advantages: Maybe a good approach for test fits for multiple buildings, or multiple options. Objects will not be coincident. Limitations: Requires extra effort for scheduling (duplicate objects – rooms, furniture, areas, and tags). Management of views on different levels.

For this project, • Worksets • Segregate Backgrounds by Level • Duplicate Backgrounds on Same View • Revit Design Options • Separate model files for each option.

This is the method we went with for our example project. We had two locations with one design for each, so keeping them in the same model to share data and content but keeping each design on a different level. It made it easier to organize the views in Revit by using the levels.
