• Erik the Red return home to tell his wife about his exile

• The wife decided to go with him• Erik the Red heard rumors of Islands west of

Iceland so he decided to travel there

• Erik the Red and his family travel to Island by boat.

• Upon reaching, they notice the climate there was a little warmer and the land more fertile.

• They decide to settle here and named it Greenland to make it sound better

3 Years Later• After 3 years, his banishments was over, so

he went back to convince Vikings to Greenland

• He tell them of the larger land, warmer climate and the show them the Barley they were able to plant there.

• He succeeded and took 25 ships of men to Greenland.

• During the time in Greenland, Leif Erikson and 2 more children are born

• They also succeed in farming Barley

• When reach Greenland, only 14 ships were able to make it.

• The other Vikings was very pleased with the new land• They all started to settle there.

• Before leaving, Leif Erikson met with an Iceland trader.

• The trader told telling him about another land west of here (North America)

10 years later• Leif Erikson grew up• He wanted to be a explorer like his fatherMap of Greenland to Norway• He decided travel to Norway

• Leif Erikson stays in Norway for a few years

• He met with the King Olaf 1• Leif Erikson was introduced to

Christianity and was converted to Christian and was baptized

• Before going, King Olaf 1 summoned him• King Olaf 1 requested Leif Erikson to spread

Christianity in Greenland• Leif Erikson accepted the request and set

back to Greenland

In Greenland• Back in Greenland, Leif Erikson started

spreading Christianity• His mom was the first to accept

Christianity• His dad, Erik the Red rejected Christianity• In the end, Erik the Red still stay loyal to

the Norse God but agreed to help his wife build the first church in Greenway

• Hearing rumors from an Icelandic trader, he sailed west to another land

• Then he reached and unknown land.• Seeing the abundant grapes growing there

and the fertile land, Leif Erikson name the place Vinland
