President's Message

There is not much to report at this time. The playground is now almost complete. We are still looking at upgrading the benches and tables since rust is not really viewed as an element of beauty. With that, we will be done with the big spending and just be covering the regular maintenance tasks such as repairing the sprinkler systems around the common areas (a much too common matter.)

We've started back with Yard of the Month one month earlier than usual, mainly due to the quick warm-up we've had this Spring. The first one went to a yard on Valley Scene, the next to Rosebud Ridge. There are several more on Valley Scene who are in the running for the next months. The rest of us need to get out there and try to match them or they may develop a monopoly on this.

Only other thing is about the gigantic trash and recycle bins (again). Most have worked out a way to store them out of sight----some haven't (and some of those have three car garages).  The board doesn't have a solid recommendation yet, but will by the annual homeowners' meeting in July. The present line of thinking is putting them on the side of the house, blocked by a small fence or, perhaps, a relatively large decorative plant. We are open to any suggestions.

That's all.

See you on the streets,Dick Leonard

Spring time is finally here! It’s now time for outdoor cooking and yard work. Here are some tips to help make your outdoor activities safer this year.

Outdoor Cooking• The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck

railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. • Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the

grill area. • Never leave your grill unattended. • If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid.

Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.

• An easy way to start a charcoal grill is to use a charcoal chimney starter using newspaper as fuel.

• When you are finished grilling on a charcoal grill, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container.

Tips from Klein Volunteer Fire Department:Spring Safety Tips

• Before using a propane grill, check all connections for proper fit and bottle integrity.

Outdoor Equipment • Make sure all lawn mowers, edger’s, weed eaters, trimmers,

etc. are in good working order for the season. • Use eye and ear protection while operating machinery. • Keep children and pets at a safe distance while operating

outdoor equipment. • Add fuel before starting the engine, not when it is running

or hot.• Fuel should be stored in approved containers, away from

ignition source. An outdoor shed is the ideal location for fuel storage.

• If equipment is electric powered, use approved extension cords that are safe for operation.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, and is the second leading cause of cancer deaths. Screening is vital because early stages of the disease are easier to treat. The American Cancer Society recommends women:•Obtainyearlymammographyscreenings,beginningatage40•Obtainyearlyclinicalbreastexams•Checkyourbreastsregularlyforlumps•DiscusstheirbreastcancerriskwiththeirphysicianBreast cancer risk increases as we age. Other factors that increase

a woman’s risk for breast cancer include:•Havingstartedmenstrualperiodsatayoungage•Havingafirstchildafterage30•Useofhormonereplacementtherapy•Havingafamilyhistoryofbreastcancer

Men are also at risk for rare cases of breast cancer. All persons familiar with the normal look and feel of their breasts should promptly report any unexpected changes to their physicians. The American Cancer Society recommends both women and men consult their doctor if they notice any of the following:•Anew, hardlumporthickeninginanypartofthebreast•Changeinbreastsizeorshape•Dimplingorpuckeringoftheskin•Swelling, redness, orwarmththatdoesnotgoaway•Recurrentpaininaparticularpartofthebreast•Pullinginofthenipple•Nippledischargethatstartssuddenlyinonlyonebreast•Anitchy, sore, orscalyareaononenipple
