The College of New Jersey Official WebsiteStory by TCNJ Writer Brandon Gould
“After spending his freshman year playing on the TCNJ baseball team, senior English major Steven Rosen decided to take a different approach to the world of sports. Rosen began a career in coaching at Hamilton West High School before receiving an internship with
the Trenton Thunder—a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees. While juggling his responsibility as the president of Phi Kappa Tau and the president of the Interfraternal Council at the
college, Rosen served as the Thunder’s video intern for two years. Rosen was also chosen as one of 100 candidates to attend the first
public Major League Baseball Scout Development School in Phoenix, Ariz., which led him to apply for a basketball operations internship
with the New York Knicks. There, Rosen approached his boss, Knicks Vice President of Player Development Chris Bernard, with the idea
to put together a special surprise for Rosen's best friend and roommate, Chris Napoli—a current TCNJ student who is battling Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Bernard awarded Steven and Chris with court-
side tickets, on-court passes, and a chance to meet players at the Knicks vs. Nets game at Madison Square Garden. The night was a
well-deserved experience for Napoli, who has worked hard to raise over $2,000 for the HackensackUMC Foundation and its Tackle Kid's Cancer campaign and Rosen was grateful he was able to reward his
best friend for his service.“To be honest, from the very first day (with the Knicks) I made jokes with Chris about trying to pull something off for him," Rosen says.
“So to see his face when I was actually able to surprise him outside of Madison Square Garden that night was something I'll never
forget.”
