THE CHILD SURVIVAL PROGRAMME
In response to the tragically high infant and maternal mortality rates in the developing world, the Compassion Child Survival Programme works with the most vulnerable mothers and babies in a community. It supports and feeds malnourished and sick children, while training pregnant women and mothers to sustain the growth and development of their little ones.
The goal is that these children not only survive, but thrive. Mothers and
caregivers are also taught literacy and numeracy skills, and many more receive
support for vocational training and income-generating activities to help
improve the long-term economic capacity of their families. Mothers,
caregivers and children also receive spiritual nurturing so that they can develop a lifelong relationship with
Jesus Christ.
THE COMMUNITY
The project is located in Barangay 3, Kabanklan City, 79 kilometres southwest of Bacolod City. The community of Barangay 3 is home to approximately 1,800 people. Typical houses are constructed of bamboo floors, wood walls and thatch roofs. The primary ethnic group living in Barangay 3 is Llonggo.
PROGRAMME UPDATE
The project currently has 39 caregivers with 39 children registered in the project.
NUMBER OF BABIES 25(O-12 months)
NUMBER OF TODDLERS 9(13-24 months)
NUMBER OF TODDLERS 5(25+ months)
As the toddlers in the Child Survival Programme reach the age of three, they are registered into the Child Sponsorship Programme, which allows them to continue growing, developing and learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
