During this period of fasting and praying , use this prayer log
to watch God work in your life.
A Place of G.R.O.W.T.H.
My Dearest Elim,
Grace to You! By God’s grace, here we stand at the threshold of a brand new year. I am always amazed at the optimism and hope that accompany the dawn-ing of the New Year. For most, it is an opportunity to move past the challenges and difficulties of the previous twelve months; with the hopeful expecta-tion that the next twelve are going to be so much better. As your pastor, I certainly touch and agree with that 2017 is going to be a wonderful year for you. I believe that the glory of the coming year is going to dwarf the grief of the previous one.
However, as a congregation, I do not want us to for-get all the great things that God did for us in 2016. Last year was indeed “The Year of Renewed
Strength” at Elim Baptist Church. Out of a season of pain, God brought us back to a place of power. We are certainly a much stronger congregation than we were at my arrival. I thank God for His grace and His favor over our church down through the years. I thank God for our committed members who gave of themselves, to ensure that Elim Baptist Church survived in 2015 and thrived in 2016.
Now, as we move forward into this New Year, God has declared that 2017 will be “The Year of Intentional Growth.” Paul said in Ephesians 4:16, “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Beloved, it is my belief that the Holy Spirit of God is pushing us to do all we can to build upon the success of the previous year. God did some great things through our fellowship last year, but we cannot stop there. I firmly believe the future success of our ministry and even my pastorate here is in many ways contingent upon the work we do this year. We must give it our best effort in 2017.
So, I am asking that you would fast and pray with us for three weeks in Janu-ary. Let us give our first to God this month. I believe that if we will give Him the first, that He will bless and redeem the rest. Give him your time in prayer; give Him your body in fasting; give Him your money in giving in a sacrifi-cial way and God will give you way more. Cheri and I have agreed to do it, and we’re asking you to partner with us.
During the weeks of the fast, we are asking for you to pray specifically for these areas:
Monday, January 9th – Saturday, January 14th: Church Leadership & Effective Ministry Development
Monday, January 16th – Saturday, January 21st: Christian Education & Numerical Growth
Monday, January 23rd – Saturday, January 28th: Continued Financial Growth & Facility Expansion
Sundays will be a day of rest!
Like last year, how you fast will be left up to you and God. However, this
guide will help you in determining what God would have you do. What can we do while abstaining from meals or feeling the pangs of hunger? We can use it as an opportunity for prayer and adoration to God. Pray together at the office, at home or on the telephone. When we are physically hungry, let us draw close to God who said, through His Son “Man shall not live on bread
alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Mt 4:4).
In conclusion, I urge all of you to fast with me for the next three weeks, from January 9th- January 28th. Let us invite our family, friends and colleagues to join us in prayer and fasting. Let us encourage one another not only in fasting but more importantly the reason behind our fast. When we start praying and fasting, we will see the anointing of the Lord in all we do. The Lord will un-leash His power in us through the Holy Spirit and marvelous blessings will be given to all. I look forward to 2017 and all that the Lord will do.
In His Service,
Pastor Miller
