Introduction:

My dear Confreres,

During the month of September we celebrate two important feasts –Our Lady of Compassion and Founder’s Day. The feast of Our Lady ofCompassion invites us to participate in the Life, suffering of Jesus justlike Mary our Mother. God sends afflictions, but nothing comes fromthe divine hand that is not useful to those souls who fear Him. Behappy if they come and receive them with a heart filled with filial lovebecause God sends them with a heart that is paternally concerned withyour perfection. He wishes to purify and refine His holy love in you.Think often about the duration of eternity and do not get upset aboutthe mishaps of this transitory and mortal life. Look often with your inwardeye on Christ Jesus, crucified, naked, blasphemed, slandered, forsaken, overwhelmed by every kind of weariness, sorrow. Remember that yoursufferings are not comparable to His, either in quality or in quantity, andthat you can never suffer for His sake anything equal to what He hassuffered for you.

Very Rev. Fr. Superior General has declared the month of Septemberas the Mermerian month. During this month we are invited to intensifyour devotion to our founder in our personal and community life andpropagate the same in the places of our ministry. May the celebrationof the founder’s day fill us with a renewed vision and mission, with anew thrust to transmit the Salesian Spirituality by our way of life.

I wish you all a Happy Feast of Our Lady of

Compassion and Happy Founder’s Day.

• Heeding the exhortation of Pope Francis, all provinces and missionunits will initiate more ministries directed to families, and those onthe periphery, rural areas, and economically poor.

• All Provinces will promote and take advantage of the services of theParish Mission Preaching.

• The General and Provincial administrations will continue to strengthenour Provinces and communities in Africa, North America, Europe, and Oceania, and will open new missions in Latin America and south-East Asia in view of implanting the Congregation, with community-based apostolates, and promoting local vocations.

ii. Testimony of the encounter experience – to be shared with allthrough

• Holiness of life• Witnessing• Missionaries who have worked in India• Missionary methods and movements in India• Sharing personal encounter experience• Proclaiming the love of Jesus, experienced

– 7 –

iii. Missionary formation for all the baptized – systematically to beprovided with its Biblical, Theological, Liturgical and Catecheticaldimensions for

• Empowering the laity for evangelization• Supplementing all levels of seminary formation with missionary

emphasis• On-going formation of priests and religious with missionary

enthusiasm• Engaging laity in the direct mission

4. Logo and its Meaningi. The Logo of the Extraordinary Missionary Month October 2019

depicts a missionary cross whose traditional colours recall thefive continents. The Cross embraces the world and connectspeople, in communication between people with the universalChurch and as a link, it creates real bonds between people.

ii. The Cross is the instrument and the efficacious sign of thecommunion between God and humanity for the universality ofour mission. The Cross is luminous, full of colour, a sign ofvictory and resurrection.

iii. The world is transparent, because our action of evangelizationhas no barriers of boundaries, it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The cross embraces every person of this world, and thanks tothe Cross we are united, connected, and open to communionfor mission. Christian charity and the world transfigured in theSpirit overcome distances and open the gaze of our mind andheart. It is the love of Jesus that knows no limits and boundaries.

iv. The words baptized and sent, which accompany the image, indicate the two characteristic and inalienable elements of every

– 8 –

Christian. From the Cross flows baptism for the salvation of theworld to which we are sent to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus.

v. The colours of the Cross are those traditionally attributed to thefive continents: red for America, green for Africa, white for Europe, yellow for Asia, and blue for Oceania.
