Whether you’re at home, at the
cabin, or on vacation, your Intention
Cards can keep you connected to
your faith.
Put Your Faith into Action
St. Teresa of Avila said, “Christ has no body on earth now but yours” so this summer, be Christ’s body, put your
faith into action, and answer God’s call to serve through various volunteering opportunities in our community.
Find a cause or service about which you are passionate and pursue it.
NEW LOCATION
Pastor Aune
The power of the resurrection at work in our lives means some-
thing new is happening. We now have the power to shed that
which is old, sinful, and burdensome and we have the power to
walk in newness of life. Because of and through the cross we are
raised to a new life. The promise of Easter pulls us into some-
thing new, something powerful and it is from God.
Where do you see this power at work in your life? How have you
seen this power at work in the lives of people you know and
love? Easter gives us language by which we
can better understand the power of the
resurrection at work in our lives. Easter
helps us to understand what God is up to
and how this ‘newness of life’ matters for
you and for me. Remind yourself each day
that you have been raised from the dead
and you are living a new life. You are living a
life in Christ, filled with His power and hope.
Alleluia! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed.
Augustana received a note of thanks from our friends at Neigh-
bors for raising $27,968.99 and 6,015 pounds of food for the MN
Foodshare campaign. Handwritten on the note were these
words, “Ridiculous Generosity” at its best! Tears of joy here at
Neighbors. We are beyond grateful for all you do for people in
need. Our neighbors!”
As a staff we would also echo those words of thanks for your
response to the needs of our immediate community. You are an
amazing community of Jesus followers. You are living out the
power of the resurrection and it is marvelous to witness.
As we move into May let me remind you that May 5 and May 12
are Global Mission Sundays at Augustana. You will be receiving a
brochure in the mail that will tell the story of our global partner-
ships and the impact your gifts will make as we receive our glob-
al mission offering on May 12.
Please take time to read the stories in the brochure and plan on
participating in worship, the special offering, adult forum and the
pot luck on May 4.
With Easter being so late this year drive-in worship is just around
the corner. It seems weird to being saying that! Summer Drive-in
Worship will be held at Heritage Middle School on Butler Avenue
this summer due to construction at Henry Sibley High School. It
will require a bit of adjusting on our part but we can make it
work and drive-in worship will once again
give us the opportunity to be outdoors and
hear the good news in a unique worship
setting.
One last note about the summer. Cathy Hen-
drikson, our Director of Children and Family
ministry will be on a 10 week sabbatical be-
ginning June 1. It was approved by the per-
sonnel committee and the church council.
Cathy has been in her current position for 16 years and will use
her sabbatical as a time of renewal as well as research new ideas
about children’s ministry in the church.
I pray for a blessed spring for each one of you as we look forward
to summer and all the good things that await us as a church
community. Live your resurrected life each day. He is risen in-
deed!
Blessings and peace,
When our Lord rose from the dead, He rose to an absolutely new life . . . He rose to a
life that had never been before. And what His resurrection means for us is that we are
raised to His risen life, not to our old life. One day we will have a body like His glorious
body, but we can know here and now the power and effectiveness of His resurrection
and can “walk in newness of life.” From Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest April 8

Due to the difficult winter and the need to cancel many blood drives, the Red
Cross is reporting a severe blood emergency beginning in May. While Au-
gustana will not be hosting a blood drive until the fall, we do ask you to con-
sider giving at a location convenient to you. Go to https://www.redcross.org/
local/minnesota/about-us/locations/twin-cities.html to find a location near
you. They are especially in need of Type O donors.

Three Good Things
Count Your Blessings
"Three good things" is a classic gratitude exer-
cise where participants are asked to write down
three good things from their day, whether big
or small. Practicing gratitude regularly has been
shown to increase positive emotions, decrease
feelings of depression, and improve well-being.
One suggestion is to keep a “Gratitude Journal”
and utilize three gratitude prompts per day, for
seven days, right before going to sleep each
night. Each prompt is a simple sentence prefix:
1. One good thing that happened to me today…
2. Today I had fun when…
3. Something I accomplished today…
After the seven days, look over your journal and
reflect on the things you are grateful for and
how you can continue to see the good things in
your life. Research has shown that those who
count their blessings on a regular basis are hap-
pier as a result.

Augustana Columbarium Expansion
The Columbarium Committee is researching the possible completion
of the Columbarium master plan as shown. We must determine future
congregational need before proceeding and are requesting your input.
To date, 75 of the existing 150 niches have been purchased. Comple-
tion of the master plan would add two 168 niche cabinets at an esti-
mated 2019 cost of $121,000 with a 5% increase projected each year
thereafter. One of the research tools the committee is implementing is
a survey that will be sent to members in the month of May. Your re-
sponse to this survey will be vital in the decision-making and planning
process. Please direct any questions or concerns you have about the
Columbarium to Cori Pochardt, Columbarium Administrator, at
New cabinets

Thank you for your help with this!
Last Day of Kids’ Kingdom

Minnesota Foodshare
Minnesota FoodShare ended on
April 7 and the final results of the
competition between the pastors is:
1st Place: Mark 10,504
2nd Place: Megan 9,929
3rd Place: Eric 9,460
But the even better news is the overall giving total: 33,496
pounds of food and dollars given. This is nearly one-third more
than our original goal of 25,000 and the most ever given by
Augustana to Neighbors in March!
This gift will feed approximately 300 families right here in Da-
kota county. You are serving your neighbor in God’s name with
ridiculous generosity. Thank you for sharing these gifts and for
giving with joy and excitement.
Augustana Environmental Camp
The campers attending Environmental camp
this summer will be collecting used mascara
wands to be cleaned and sent to the Appa-
lachian Wildlife Refuge. The wildlife refuge
uses the clean wands to remove fly eggs

Wands can be dropped off in the church
office or at the Information Center marked
Enviro Camp.

The following items are needed for
VBS. If you would like to donate any of
the following, please leave them at the
Information Center or in the church office marked VBS.
Graham crackers, M&M’s (regular), bagged popcorn, square
pretzels, red licorice, corn nuts, shredded coconut, animal
crackers, chocolate chips, raisins, Gushers, chocolate sand-
wich cookies, chocolate frosting, and Hershey chocolate bars.
Collecting Donations this Summer
Spring has finally arrived! Now that the snow has melted and we can see our yards and gardens again, it is time to think about spring planting. When you are shopping at local nurseries and garden centers, consider picking up some extra plants or seed packets to grow for the Share Your Bounty table at OUR CHURCH this fall. (Remember - when you shop locally, you help OUR COMMUNITY). Some good planting ideas for late summer vegetables include corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, egg plant and swiss chard. Fall harvested crops that are good for sharing include pumpkins, squash, gourds, beets, carrots and rutabaga. Onions, potatoes and herbs are also great to grow and share. If you've never planted a garden before, give it a try at YOUR HOME! Start small - maybe plant a few rows of your favorite vege-tables this year. Pick out things that your family likes to eat, or be brave and try something new. Fresh vegetables that you have grown yourself ALWAYS taste best. You can plant seeds directly in your garden or buy plants that are already started. When growing from seeds, follow the instructions on the package. Planting a garden can be fun for the whole family. Children can help pick out vegetable seeds or plants. Seeds that are particu-larly fun with kids include beans, pumpkins and gourds. These seeds can be soaked overnight in a paper cup before planting to give them a head start. After the planting, kids can help with the weeding, watering AND harvesting. If space is an issue, try planting in containers. Herbs are especially suited to this type of gardening. They often attract butterflies and humming-birds. They add great flavor to your summer meals and are always an easy item to share. Orchards offer another great opportunity for sharing. Fresh-picked apples are a tasty treat, especially to those who've only ever gotten them from the store. Starting in August, the EarthKeepers will again host a Share Your Bounty table. Any items left over from the Share Your Bounty table will be taken to the Neighbors, Inc food shelf. Watch for more details this summer. Happy planting!
Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce. Jeremiah 29:5
