Message from the Padre

Our Gospel story this weekend is a strange story of a wedding with ten brides-

maids and a groom who is late. Yes… this might be a strange wedding but there is more

behind in this story. The bridegroom wants us to “Stay awake! for we do not know on

which day your Lord will come.” This kind of instruction does not always sit well with

most of us. No one wants to stay awake and wait. Everyone is always in a hurry and for

most of us, patience is not our greatest virtue. We always complain about waiting…but

how about waiting for God? Do we have the patience to stay awake for God? When we

pray, do we have the time to wait for God’s reply or do we do our own thing without

waiting for God’s answer?

My dear friends, our Gospel’s message this weekend offers us some wisdom on how to slow down

and rediscover what we are preparing for. Christ is telling us that as we wait for God’s kingdom...we should not only live

in harmony with one another but also prepare ourselves in the way of the Lord.

As Christians, our act of waiting for God is a never-ending journey. Each day ends with another day of antici-

pation that tomorrow may be our last day. But we have to remember that waiting for Christ does not mean that we wait in

our sleep. Our waiting means getting ready, being prepared and doing something good because it is not every day that we

are given the chance to do all that we are expected to do. Yes, every minute here on earth counts, that is why it is impor-

tant to ask the question “what would Jesus do... and what would he want me to do if this is my last day?

My dear brothers and sisters, we all have heard the words Stop! Look! and Listen! Today Jesus adds more to

these words… he says… Stay Awake! Wait! and be Prepared! for we do not know on which day your Lord will come.

In Ordinary Time Wisdom 6: 12-16

1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18

Matthew 25: 1-13

In the holy scriptures that we hear proclaimed today, wis-

dom is presented as a central value. We hear an ode to

wisdom in the first reading, and the parable of the wise

and foolish virgins in the Gospel. The wisdom that we

need will enable us to be ready for the coming of the

Lord. Listening to these readings, what do you think you

need to do to prepare for the Lord’s coming today?

OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE

A Prayer for our

Veterans

Father, we could never thank our military men and women

enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our

country and its people. Yet on Veteran’s Day we lift up our

voices to express gratefulness and honor to these military

troops both from the past and present. Show us ways in our

communities, churches, and families to thank and love them

better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in

the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
