State of Art Computer Lab Donation Program
Transforming Education Through Technology
Concept Document: State of Art Computer Lab Donation Program
Introduction:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
― Nelson Mandela
Ellaine Memorial Foundation (EMFound), a sister organization of Unlimited Technology
Pvt. Ltd which is registered as ‘Not-For-Profit’ company under the Company Act 2006,
Section 5 –Sub-Section (1) and a registered member of Social Welfare Council of Nepal.
EMFound.
Ellaine Tuladhar-daughter of Allen Tuladhar, at the age of 14, left this world after sever
fever 10 years back. While putting the fire into his daughter Ellaine’s pyre, Allen vouched
that he is going to be helping the youths of the country in whatever capacity possible.
This commitment gave birth to Ellaine Memorial Foundation which started as a small
kindle of hope but hoping that this small light will touch the lives of many children in
Nepal with technology, innovation, careers and entrepreneurship development to convert
from a caterpillar to a butterfly.
EMFound’s vision is to create hundreds of computer labs across Nepal to provide
increased hope and opportunity for many hundreds of thousands of Nepali students.
Achieving this will not only ‘change the world’ for these students but also their families,
and wider communities.
EMFound has identified the following 6 challenges all starting with C’s (Computers, Cash,
Content, Capacity Development, Coordination and Connectivity) due to which ICT in
Education in the local communities of Nepal are struggling to develop; and to overcome
these challenges EMFound has developed this initiation of lab donation program.
Increasing use of ICT in education has been a seemingly important concern for students,
educators and the local people to learn to operate in this rapidly changing information
world. Since, the beginning of this century, education has faced a variety of social, cultural,
economic, and technical challenges in Nepal. Despite overcoming many obstacles and
developing itself in context of education sector, ICT in education in remote areas of Nepal
is still in the chaotic condition struggling with challenges that includes lack of computers
and cash, content, lack of ICT knowledge in educators, care and management of the
hardware and ancillary equipment, connectivity issues, and lack of coordinating and
communicating through multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Concept Document: State of Art Computer Lab Donation Program
EMFound attempts to overcome these challenges by developing new approaches and
frameworks for enhancing the dissemination of information and helping to meet these
challenges to accelerate the growth of ICT in education in Nepal through the
establishment of ‘state of art’ computer labs in rural schools, e-libraries, e-literacy training
for educators, creation of educators network, conference for policy advocacy, curriculum
development, help desk for educators and partnership between academia and industry
programs.
The basic hardware and software provided for a school during ‘state of ART’ lab creation
for a school are as follows:

Digital Literacy/ICT in Education Trainings: In order to develop the capacity of the educators, EMFound will provide digital literacy
training to the teachers and ICT in education training to them with zero charges. We have
40 surface tablets to drag from village to village to provide training to community schools.
Expectation from School

b. Manage every necessary logistics for the training.
c. Will be responsible for loss and damage of the laptops.
d. Ensure an adequate number of participants to the training.
e. Provide the required hospitality to the instructor and other officials coming
from MIC Nepal for the purpose.

lab from time to time to the concerned and selected schools.
Other Technical, Soft skills Training, Workshops for Educators
EMFound believes in capacity development of the educators. So, we will be providing
technical trainings as well as non-technical workshops every quarter (every 3 months) for
the educators as the refresher training to the lab donated schools. The school should send
teachers on their own expenses for the trainings or workshop. These trainings and
workshops will be organized in different areas of Nepal.
Support via field visit and Help Desk: EMFound will be establishing help desk in order to support all the supported schools with
any technical problems.
Monitoring & Evaluation/Reporting: EMFound expects proper report from school on the usage of lab every month possible.
Award: Every year, EMFound celebrates Guru Purnima (Teacher’s Day), a one day workshop where
educators from different schools will be invited. EMFound will be recognizing the best
school and the best teacher who will contribute in making the use of computer lab

successful. For this, EMFound will put on a survey to select the best school and best
teacher who uses, motivates the student to use the computer lab.
Lab Donated in Past: Starting from Sept 2014, EMFound has donated computer lab in 134 schools in 18 districts
of Nepal.

Impact:
In average, a community school will have 800-1000 students and around 25-30 teachers
per school and this project will directly provide benefit to above 1,00,000 children and
indirectly help to reach the community of 4,00,000 in a year and half. We believe it will
create a very positive impact as seen in past years and help transform the education
through technology. Hence, request to support this project with your guidance and
funding to keep going.
