In Our Parish

June 2, 2019– Ascension of the Lord

When Jesus was lifted up into heaven, He drew His disciples to himself and led them to a better life with purpose and mission.

In the Gospel, Jesus challenged his disciples to continue his work of preaching repentance for the forgiveness of sins and of telling the world of God’s love. He empowered his people and made them his partners and coworkers in his work of salvation. He sent them the Holy Spirit to give them the courage, the gifts, the inspiration to continue his mission. The mission is to bear witness to Jesus in the world, proclaim the Good News that God loves us no matter who we are and to show by our love and compassion that Jesus is always with us.

This feast of the Ascension also reminds us that we are all pilgrims on our way to the father, our final destination.

Although we heard in the readings about the departure of Jesus through His ascension, we know that Jesus remains with us in the gift of the Eucharist through which He continually nourishes us for the mission of sharing His good news.

Let us continue to carry out the mission of Jesus by being the visible face of his love and mercy by what we say and do. Amen. From Fr. Steve

ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST THURSDAY OF EACH

MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM The next Adoration is June 6, 2019

Why Eucharistic Adoration? The Catechism quotes St. Pope John Paul II: “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease.” (CCC1380)

Every vocation in the Church comes from and through Christ Jesus. It is He who calls. Spending time in Eucharistic Adoration with our Divine Lord is a good place to go to ask what He wants with our life. Why not spend some time each month in adoration, in union, in contemplation of the Lord present in the Eucharist?

Spending time with Jesus in adoration should not strike us as unusual. It is really a very natural human activity. When two people love each other, they want to spend time together to visit, to get to know each other better. You cannot love someone you do not know. Adoration of our Lord in the Eucharist is your chance to know Jesus better.

Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Let our adoration never cease.

Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]

Peace & Justice: May Peace be with you! Pray the Rosary and always know that God loves you, no matter who you are and no matter what you have done.

This weekend we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Christ's Ascension marks the definitive entrance of Jesus into God's heavenly domain. The Ascension of our Lord signified the completion of His time on earth, which is celebrated by the Church forty days after the Resurrection and ten days before the Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ, the head of the Church, precedes us into the Almighty Father's glorious kingdom so that we, the members of his Body, may live in the hope of one day being with him forever. Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us hope by promising that "when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also" (John 14:3).

Jesus Christ, having entered the sanctuary of heaven once and for all, intercedes constantly for us as the mediator who assures us of the permanent outpouring of the Holy Spirit. (--The Catechism of the Catholic Church)

The One with whom the Father is well pleased (Matthew 17:5) was

received up in honor, such that Jesus' ascension was a literal bodily

return to heaven, and He was given a name above all names

(Philippians 2:9).

Respect Life: As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace. Please pray that human life is never devalued and violated. May we always appreciate the gift of life that God gives all of us and trust in His plan where all life is precious! Migrant Ministry: We are gear ing up and making plans for our summer outreach to the Eastern Shore! Our contact for Migrant Ministry is Isabel Valentini at # (757)406-1453. We are very excited to meet and share with the migrant workers. Please consider joining Migrant Ministry, especially if you are fluent in Spanish (for visits to Hispanic camps) or French (for possible Haitian camps). We will update soon about plans and items of need.

We are making every effort to continue to follow our Diocese’s Safe Environment Program for Children and Vulnerable Adults. Here are a few changes that we have made to help in this goal. Recently we have re-configured our

Reconciliation Room in the Chapel to offer a space that complies with a safe environment for Reconciliation.

We have also moved the vesting area for the Altar Servers to the Choir Closet. They will change in this space under the guidance of a responsible adult.
