On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to welcome all of you to the Stanwich School’s Annual Benefit. Tonight is a highlight of the year for the Stanwich

community as we come together in what promises to be another fun, memorable evening. We are very thankful for the many generous contributions that you and others have made to the auction. Proceeds from the live and silent auctions go directly toward Stanwich’s bottom line and the enhancement of our programs.

There is much to celebrate this evening. With the successful integration of the Upper School at 257 Stanwich Road this fall, The Stanwich School became the only Pre-K to 12 coeducational independent school in Greenwich. Bravo to all!

Tonight we celebrate Stanwich’s talented, committed and caring faculty and administration

and generate the support they need to continue their mission. Every day Stanwich teachers foster a culture of excellence through a powerful combination of balanced, yet rigorous academics with a true emphasis on character education that runs throughout the school. Stanwich is … Balance. Rigor. Excellence.

The festivities this evening are the result of many dedicated parent volunteers working tirelessly for several months. I would like to recognize Kara Gerardi and Kristine Gigliotti for their positive leadership as co-chairs of the benefit committee. Please join me in reaching out to all the parent volunteers who worked so hard to coordinate the auction items, solicit ads for this journal, decorate the room and took the initiative on other details to ensure that tonight’s event is a memorable success. Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to The Stanwich School’s 2015 Benefit, “A Night at The Casino”. It has been our distinct privilege to co-chair this event for our amazing school. Seeing the entire Stanwich community come together over the past months to make “A Night at the Casino” a reality has been a truly rewarding experience. This role has given us the opportunity to embrace the unique spirit of this remarkable school as well as help raise funds that will build towards its future.  Tonight we will celebrate our school, our talented teachers and staff as well as the parent community that makes Stanwich such a special place.

We are most grateful to our talented committee who has done a wonderful job making this event a reality.   Their creativity and enthusiasm for our school is unparalleled and the success of “A Night at The Casino” is a reflection of that. Thank you all for the countless hours of work you put forth to make this event so special.

Thank you to our Board of Trustees for their leadership and unwavering support of this event. We extend a heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff at Stanwich, and of course our Head of School, Mr. Paul Geise, who collaboratively continue to make our school a very special place for our children. This event would have been impossible without the support of the Communications and Advancement offices. A million thanks to all of the parents who generously donated to their class gift and to the class representatives who helped make them happen. A huge thank you to our donors and underwriters, without you this evening would not be possible.

ABOUT THE AUCTIONEER

David Smith is pleased to be joining all the parents and friends of The Stanwich School for the exciting 2015 Benefit. For a number of years, David has hosted Cablevision’s “Meet the Leaders”, a TV interview program talking with Connecticut leaders about local, regional and statewide issues on Channel 84.

During his more than 20 years on News12 CT, David was seen anchoring the news and co-hosted The Exchange, where he conducted over 20,000 interviews with people of interest to the area from around the region and the world. For more than 21 years, he woke up Fairfield County, as the morning host on 1350 WNLK. David was also heard on “David Smith’s Exchange” a daily radio talk show on WICC 600. In addition, David’s image and voice can be seen and heard both on the television and over the radio airwaves in commercial voiceovers as well as corporate videos.

David Smith has assisted many community organizations serving as Emcee and Auctioneer throughout the tri-state area including, The Carver Center, Elderhouse, Fairfield Prep, Circle of Care, The Norwalk Mayor’s Ball, and many more. He conducts weddings as Justice of the Peace, is a Registrar of Voters, hosts corporate events, as well as non-profit fundraisers and benefits.

David was born and raised in Irvington on Hudson, New York, attended schools in New York and Virginia and college at Princeton University. He lives in Easton with his wife Susanne, daughters Alexis and Taylor, and Chocolate Lab, Chatham.

 

LIVE AUCTION RULES

The property offered in this live auction sale will be offered and sold by The Stanwich School. Any questions should be directed to The Stanwich School and not to David Smith who serves merely as an auctioneer for Stanwich in conducting the Auction Sale.

A live auction bid is entered by raising your paddle and being recognized by the auctioneer.

The auctioneer has the right to determine increments on each item. Any item not sold at a satisfactory price may be withdrawn at the option of the auctioneer.

The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between the bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion to determine the winning bidder.

The title to each article passes to the highest bidder on the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. The purchaser assumes full risk and responsibility.

SILENT AUCTION RULES

All items in the silent auction have an item number associated with them. Enter the item number into your Smartphone or IPad to bid on the item.

If you are not able to attend on the evening of the event, you may participate online or using your Smartphone or IPad up until the close of the auction on the night of April 24, 2015.

Each incremental bid amount is displayed on BidPal and constitutes a valid bid.

Each new bid must be entered into the BidPal system (or a Maximum Bid may be set to allow the system to bid on your behalf).

Only an authorized person may nullify a bid.

Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used by April 24, 2016.

Purchasers are asked to respect times stipulated by donors and not request changes. Donors should be contacted within 30 days.

Payment by successful bidder must be made by pre-swiping credit card at registration or at checkout. Visa, MasterCard and Discover payments are encouraged. American Express is also accepted.

All sales are final.  There will be no exchanges or refund.  Please read specifications and limitations carefully.

The Stanwich School warrants neither the quality nor the value of the items offered for auction.

The purchaser assumes full risk and responsibility for any service, trip or item acquired and will not hold The Stanwich School responsible or liable.

All item contact information may be picked up after payment has been received.

In the event of a dispute, the Auction Chairman shall act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. Her decision shall be final.

KING OR QUEEN RULES

Benefit attendees purchase a poker chip for $50 to participate in the game Kings or Queens.

The auctioneer has a deck of cards filled with only King and Queen face cards.

On opposite sides of the dance floor, you will find a giant King or Queen card. When prompted, each player must choose either “King” or “Queen” and stand by the card of their choice.

The auctioneer will pull a card form the deck and announce whether it is a “King” or a “Queen.” Players standing by the selection will remain in the game while the others will sit down.

If a player wishes to remain in the game they can opt to “buy in” by purchasing another chip for $50. Players may only buy back in in the round successively following their elimination. This will repeat until the Final Round. The Final Round will be determined by the auctioneer when there are approximately 12 players left in the game.

The game will continue to play out until a winner is determined.

The winner will receive a round-trip flight and four-day stay at Casa de Campo Resort and Spa for two in the Dominican Republic. Runner up will receive two tickets to any show at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York.

KING OR QUEEN PRIZES

Mr. DiMinno will take your student and two friends to lunch and a guided tour of the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury, CT. One parent will provide transportation and attend lunch and the museum visit. Excursion must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date. For fourth graders and above. As the nights get warmer and the days longer, it is time for a real camp out. And, what better place than in our school’s back yard! And, who better to organize and supervise than, Head Master Geise, acclaimed Boy Scout Leader Jamie Benincasa, and camp-out aficionados Tiffany Benincasa and Mike Simko. All the lucky children need to bring is their sleeping bag, pj’s and flashlights. Jamie will tend to the grill and serve up steak sandwiches, Jamie burgers, and corn dogs. A full ration will be provided to each camper and extras will be allotted to parents, who are welcome to stick around for dinner! The evening will include a scavenger hunt, story telling & S’more making around the campfire. Stargazing encouraged. The winner of this auction will receive a portable Weber gas grill in Stanwich Blue, which will be perfect for future camping endeavors.
