APPLY NOW!! As you apply for colleges/universities/technical schools, seek out specific scholarships these pro-grams offer. Call admissions offices and ask what scholarships are available, and if you have decided on a pro-gram of study, call this specific office and ask what scholarships are available, as well. For example, if you havedecided on majoring in Nursing, call the Nursing department on campus and ask them directly for scholarshipopportunities within their program. It is surprising how often scholarships go unfilled simply because no one ap-plies. There is never harm in asking!

Also, even though many of these scholarship deadlines are a ways out yet, start looking over applications andstarting the process. Some of the applications require much more time to complete than others, so be sure yougive yourself adequate time to put together a quality application. 59 Years and Counting at SCFree Dental Exams

Thank you to all who volunteered in any way during themove to the new elementary school building. It was aHUGE job and your help was greatly appreciated. Aspecial thanks to Mrs. Lutz, Mr. Burgaard and Ms. Peter-sen who stuck with us on both the 19th and 20th tosee the job completed. Things would not have gone sosmoothly or quickly without you!

The Moving/Open House/Playground Committee

Thank You!!

At a Cronin Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago, several of the Croninsiblings began discussing how many consecutive years a Cronin familymember has attended school in the Fort Pierre/Stanley County Schools.2014 marks the 59th consecutive year that there has been a Croninenrolled in the school district. Obviously, the “original” siblings havegraduated long ago, but some of them still have their children and grand-children in the district, with more to come but who are not old enoughto attend just yet.

Robert and Mary Cronin had 11children: 6 girls and 5 boys. Two werecalled to be with God when they were young, and the remaining ninewalked through the doors of Stanley County Schools. Additionally, twoof the spouses also graduated from SC, and seven of their children havegraduated, with more still in school.

Mary Cronin still lives in the best town there is – Fort Pierre, in the bestcounty there is – Stanley County. She is very proud of every one of herchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and their accomplish-ments, and she is a big supporter in any activity or community functionof which they are a part.

Cronins to have passed through the doors of Stanley County are: Carol,Dan, Sheila, Larry and his wife Sandy Nickles, Buddy and his wifeDanette Bergeson, Kathy, Pat, Cherie, and Rick. The next generationconsisting of Kevin, Kelli, Kirby, Shane, Shaun, Steven, Stephanie, Nate (asenior), Kaycee (a sophomore), and Campbell (1st grade) have graduatedor are in the district currently. Youngest Cronin members Sayth andConnelly are too young to be in school, but both live in Fort Pierre.

This past Thanksgiving the family decided that it would be proper totake one last photo with the “old” school before it is torn down. Whenthe former elementary building was newly opened, Carol had juststarted school, and most recently, Campbell had been attending class inthat building. The Cronin family and others made many good friendshipsand memories between those years. They now look forward to manymore memories and good times in the new facility. If the Cronin familyis any indicator, those memories will be made for a very, very long time.

Ms. Clair’s 5th grade class did a Mys-tery Skype call to another 5th gradeclass in another state during computerclass time. We had to ask them ques-tions about their state and town andthey asked us questions until we foundwhere they lived. We asked 30 ques-tions before we discovered that they lived in Mondamin, Iowa. They only needed to ask us 23 questions to find our town. Wehad to use maps and team work. We didn’t need much helpfrom the teachers. This activity was fun and very educational.Article submitted by: Kaylie, 5th Grade

Parents, Please Note: FEBRUARY 18-21 – ELEMENTARY DROP OFF

Demolition of the old K-2 building will be in full swing beginning on Friday, February 14. Sharpe Construction is going to usethat long weekend to get a majority of the potentially dangerous work completed. However, due to continued work and cleanup following the demolition, we are asking that elementary students, KG to 5th grade, use the south doors to enter and exit thebuilding for the week on February 18-21. These are the doors on the same street as the MS/HS entrance. No students shouldbe using the west or north doors during this week.

RECAP NOTICE: During the week of February 18-21, all elementary students are to use only the south doors to the

building to enter or exit the school.

Stanley County plans to offer Girls on the Run (3rd-5th grade) and Girls on Track (6th-8th grade) this spring. These in-teractive programs strive to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
