Stage 1 Mini

Olympics

What a great week we had last week with Kindergarten celebrating their 100 days of school, Keeley Thompson winning an ANZAC DAY state colouring competition, 1/2B’s assembly item and our school being recognised in the BDT for learning the National Anthem by sign language. We may be restricted by COVID, but we are still kicking goals as a school. Kindergarten students looked amazing as “old” people and enjoyed their party day last Monday. The teachers even looked older than me!

Check out their video on our face book page. It is brilliant. ANZAC Colouring Competition Award Keeley Thompson (pictured below) received a beautiful medal for her participation in an ANZAC Colouring Competition. A great effort given there were over 63,000 entries. Well Done Keeley. Book Week 2021 Alma Public School’s Book Week parade will be held in week 7 on Wednesday 25th August. The theme for this year’s Book week is “Old World, New World, Other Worlds” and it is a celebration of all things unusual, magical, mysterious, amazing and curious. Just imagine the costumes you can think of in those areas. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, no visitors will be able to attend the parade, but we will take lots of photos and videos to share with the community. Attendance Our school is targeting attendance and encouraging students to attend school regularly as every day counts. Last week the classes that showed the best growth in whole class attendance rates were KJ and 3/4W. Congratulations.

Bugdlie News! It looks like we are spending our days playing. Here is a glimpse at what we do!

Recently our children have been very interested in block play. Our team of Educators are using this interest to provide children with quality learning opportunities. Throughout block experiences our children create, solve problems, experiment, test, adapt, collaborate, and explain. They fully participate and engage in high quality, rich, challenging, hands on intentional experiences, all while playing with our blocks. The learning occurring during block play supports key aspects of development, including social and emotional growth, creativity, imagination, self-esteem, and language learning as children talk about the structures they built with the educators and peers around them. Block play provides our children with opportunities to learn about the foundations of science and mathematics including problem solving, counting, adding, and subtracting. These experiences also help to build both gross and fine motor skills. At Alma Bugdlie Preschool we believe play is essential to learning for its ability to stimulate and integrate a wide range of our children’s intellectual, physical, social, and creative abilities. Our team actively engages with and are attuned to children throughout their block play so that we can assist to support and extend learning.

Block Play Links to Early Years Learning Framework
