Term 4 Week 4 - 29th October 2015 All Saints Day November 1

Gospel Reading Matthew 5:1-12 Jesus teaches what it means to be happy.

Family Connection One of the great gifts of our Catholic tradition is remembrance of and prayer with the saints. The Church offers us an official canon, or list, of saints. On All Saints Day, we recall and pray with these saints. It is important to continue to tell these stories of saints and saintly people to our children so that they have ample models of people of faith for their own lives.

Together as a family, name and tell the story of favourite saints. Together prepare a list of some of the traits that these people have in common (generosity, courage, prayerfulness, and so on) After preparing this list, read together today's Gospel, Matthew 5:1-12. Identify how the attitudes described in the Beatitudes are reflected in the lives of the saints and people you named.

Pray together as a family a Litany of the Saints. (For example, the leader prays, “St. Elizabeth,” and the children are invited to reply, “Pray for us.”) Include in your list the saints and holy people you named in your discussion. Conclude by praying that your family will follow the example of these people as disciples of Jesus.

PRINCIPAL PILGRIMAGE TO

THE HOLY LAND

From this Saturday 31st October I will be

participating in a Pilgrimage for System Leaders to

the Holy Land and Rome. I will be travelling with

a group of principals from across the diocese, Mr

Greg Whitby the Executive Director of Parramatta

Diocese and the Very Reverend Father Chris de

Souza. We will be travelling across Jordan, Israel,

Rome and Assisi as we follow the life of Jesus and

the early Church visiting many places of biblical

significance.

Throughout my journey I will be thinking and

praying for our community of St Francis of Assisi.

I am pleased to announce that Miss Deb Sheridan

will be Acting Principal and Mrs Kate Owens will

be Acting Assistant Principal whilst I am on the

pilgrimage.

APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION FROM

SCHOOL FORM FOR HOLIDAYS OR

LEAVE

Parents, please note it is mandatory to complete an

“Application for extended leave/travel (between

10 to 100 days)” if your child will be going on

holidays/overseas trips, during any school term.

This form needs to be completed, submitted and

approved by the Principal, prior to going on leave,

giving at least four weeks notice where possible.

If your child is going to be away between 1 and 9

days a letter to the teacher notifying them of the

leave is required.

Forms can be picked up from the School Office.

to St Francis in 2016, a note stating their last day at

our school and the school they will be attending is

required.

Children will be instructed to go to their designated

pick up areas at this time.

HAND FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE

There have been several cases of hand, foot and

mouth disease reported at St Francis of Assisi

Primary School.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is generally a mild

illness caused by the coxsackievirus. It is not a

serious illness and is not at all related to the foot

and mouth disease that affects animals. It mainly

occurs in children under 10 years of age but can

also occur in older children and adults.

For further information please call your local

Public Health Unit on 1300 066 055 or visit the
