Notes from Fr. DelPastoral Region Planning BeginsOn December 7, Fr. Steve Walter (Pastor of St. John Fisher) and I met with Bishop Joseph Binzer (Priests’ Personnel Director), and Fr. Jan Schmidt (Director of Pastoral Services) to discuss the formation of a Collaborative Pastoral Region.
Bishop Binzer explained the process of forming a region, which in our case means sharing a pastor and clergy assistance. We emphasized that this is NOT a merger of parishes, nor a consolidation of parishes.
Down the road, we could look at how our parishes might work together by sharing of some staff and programs, but these are not steps that we would look at initially.
I emphasized that we would need additional clergy assistance, as we are not in a position to reduce Sunday Masses.
On January 11, at St. Veronica, Bishop Binzer and Fr. Schmidt will meet with:
1. Pastors of both parishes, then2. Parish Council and/or Finance Council and Staff of
both regions. All of these groups will have dinner together between our meetings.
A Town Hall Meeting would be held on Thursday, January 19. ALL PARISHIONERS are invited to hear the plans about the Collaborative Pastoral Region. This meeting will take place at St. John Fisher at 7:00 p.m.
Part of this process would involve a Transition/Implementation Committee to form a plan to be presented to Bishop Binzer.
Further, more detailed information can be found by going to www.catholiccincinnati.org, then “Ministries and Office,” then “Pastoral Regions.”
Please pray for the smooth transition of implementing the region for our two parishes. It’s also important to note that this process is going on throughout the archdiocese. Our parishes are not being “singled out,” but joining in the process of our whole archdiocese.
Faith Direct: Faith Direct is a service that makes your sacrificial giving easy and convenient, Please consider signing up for this service by visiting our parish website at www.faithdirect.net. Our code is OH221.
Estate Planning: Please consider St. Veronica in your estate planning.
Many Families, One in Christ WEEKLY CHALLENGE, January 7/8
Bless your home today with chalk blessed at Mass. Traditionally, on the Feast of the Epiphany, homes are blessed.
EPIPHANY BLESSING – On the feast of the Epiphany, or Little Christmas, it is a tradition to ask God to bless our homes. This tradition includes using chalk to trace four crosses, the initials of the three kings (Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar) and the numerals of the current year over the doorway. It will look like this [20 + C + M + B + 17]. A similar tradition is to take the first Christmas card with the three kings that you receive and put it over the doorway to your house. Maybe you could write this blessing above a door in your home – most people use chalk so that it can be erased next year, and pray the following prayer.
Lord God of heaven and earth,You revealed Your only begotten Son,to every nation by the guidance of a star.Bless this house and all who inhabit it.May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness and the keeping of Your law.Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each other may go out to all.We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

FREQUENT CONTACTS
Renewal through Outreach: St. Veronica Gives Back!(March 5-12, 2017)
From March 5 through March 12, all parishioners are invited to join together in a unique renewal opportunity.
Renewal is meant to stir the flame of the Holy Spirit in all of us, empowering us to live, teach and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others with new energy and enthusiasm. The opportunity to practice this Renewal through active involvement with those disadvantaged in our neighborhoods and community is an exciting step for St. Veronica.
How will it work? Parishioners will come together on Sunday, March 5 to pray and reflect on the call to service in our community. Then we will be sent forth to help at one of several social service agencies in the Cincinnati area on a day the following week. Finally, we will come back together the following Sunday, March 12, to share and reflect more deeply on the encounters we’ve had and how we can bring that spirit with us beyond the week.
Who can participate? Families, individuals, groups and parishioners of all ages are invited to participate and grow together as a parish. The outreach opportunities will all be tailored to meet the wide range of needs and abilities in our parish. SEE THE INSERT IN TODAY’S BULLETIN.
Sign up NOW! You are now able to sign up for a specific outreach opportunity with one of the groups previously published. Here is the link:

WEDNESDAY CHURCH NIGHT FOR JANUARY
What happens during the celebration of Mass? What do the words and actions mean? How can I help my children understand and be engaged in it?
Join Emily Besl and Bill Frantz, as they offer some basic insights on the meaning of the Mass, aimed at helping parents deepen their own understanding and appreciation of the Mass and passing that on to their children.
They will also welcome all to share helpful, age-appropriate and reasonable strategies with young children during Mass and how to help older children join in praying the Mass.
Wednesday, January 18, from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m., in the Parish Ministry Center. No need to RSVP.
WANT SOMETHING PUBLISHED IN THE BULLETIN?
Please email information to [email protected] by Friday, 10 days before the bulletin date.

SOLEMNITY OF THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Today’s Readings: Isaiah 60:1–6; Psalm 72:1–2, 7–8, 10–11, 12–13; Ephesians 3:2–3a, 5–6; Matthew 2:1–12. The Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord is one of univer-sal recognition of Christ as Savior. The images of a light rising in the east and of a star guiding wise foreigners to a simple home are full of symbolism. Yet it is a very earthy reality. One bright star in a dark winter sky can attract our attention. The morning sun rising in the east is a promise of a new day, when the darkness of night is ending. It is a global experience and a very human experience that under-scores the depth of Christ’s coming.
For whom has Christ come? Who will recognize him? On Epiphany, we are drawn to a broader meaning for each of these questions. In the opening lines of the First Reading, Isaiah announces: “Your light has come,” and then, “nations shall come to your light.” In the dark and cold of winter, notice that Christ can be found in simple places, in complex people, and often in unexpected exchanges with those who are foreign to us. Epiphany is our opportunity to welcome guests from afar, to open our doors and our hearts to unex-pected wisdom from strangers.

Gracious God,as a shining star once guided the Magi,
Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar,to the home of the infant Jesus, bless this home and all who live herewith your loving and welcoming presence.May all who follow your starand dwell in your lovebecome a light for the world.May your love be our inspiration, your wisdom be our guide, and your peace be our blessing. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

This Week And BeyondMonday, January 9Feast of the Baptism of the LordThe baptism of Jesus by John is a pivotal event, in which the Spirit not only descends from the heavens, but propels Jesus into his public ministry. Our Baptism does the same. We are anointed by the Spirit to serve others, to live our lives pub-licly as sons and daughters of the living God. May we reflect the power of the Spirit as did Jesus by “going about doing good” (Acts 10:38). Today’s Readings: Isaiah 42:1–4, 6–7 or Acts 10:34–38; Psalm 29:1–2, 3–4, 9–10; Matthew 3:13–17.
Tuesday, January 17St. Anthony, AbbotSt. Anthony (251–356) was a hermit, living and praying in the desert and caves of Egypt. While he longed to live a soli-tary, ascetic life, he was integrally connected to the world. His insights as a spiritual leader drew other monks and her-mits to him, and his healing power was widely known, draw-ing the sick and destitute to him as well. His biographer and bishop, St. Athanasius, sought him for advice, and even Emperor Constantine wrote to him, asking for prayers. Humble in his popularity, Anthony simply directed everyone to God, Scripture, and prayer. Today’s Readings: Ephesians 6:10–13, 18; Psalm 16:1–2a, 5, 7–8, 11; Matthew 19:16–26.
Saturday, January 21St. Agnes, Virgin and MartyrToday in Rome the Pope blesses two lambs, a tradition held since the sixth century. “Lamb” is the English translation of Agnus, which is so close to Agnes that many would mix up the two words. While St. Agnes is frequently depicted in art-work holding a lamb, the Latin name is the only connection with her life and martyrdom. The wool from the lambs blessed today will be woven into palliums and given to new archbishops this summer. Today’s Readings: 1 Corinthians 1:26–31; Psalm 23:1b–3a, 4, 5, 6; Matthew 13:44–46.
Thursday, January 26Sts. Timothy and Titus, BishopsDiscipleship underscores the feast of Sts. Timothy and Titus, both companions of St. Paul during his years of travel and ministry. Timothy served as bishop in Ephesus, while Titus became bishop in Crete. Just as Jesus appointed the seventy-two (Luke 10) to spread the Good News and do good works, Paul wrote letters to both men, commissioning them to con-tinue to serve in these two diverse areas of ancient Christianity. Today’s Readings: 2 Timothy 1:1–8 or Titus 1:1–5; Psalm 96:1–2a, 2b–3, 7–8a, 10; Luke 10:1–9.
Thursday, February 2Feast of the Presentation of the LordCandles are at the center of today’s feast as we liturgically close a focus on the childhood of Jesus and emphasize that Christ is the Light of the World. A solemn candlelight procession is the ritual centerpiece for the feast. In the home, families could light candles during a prayer celebration that would focus on the light Christ brings to the world. Today’s Readings: Malachi 3:1–4; Psalm 24:7, 8, 9, 10; Hebrews 2:14–18; Luke 2:22–40.
Monday, February 6St. Paul Miki and Companions, MartyrsToday the Martyrs of Japan are remembered, twenty-six of whom endured a 600-mile death march, public abuse, and finally crucifixion in 1597. The suffering and faithfulness of these Japanese individuals is epitomized by Paul Miki. A Jesuit brother, he preached from the cross upon which he died, his words continuing to strengthen his companions and provide witness to the world. These martyrs lived the words of St. Paul in today’s Second Reading: “I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.” Today’s Readings: Galatians 2:19–20; Psalm 126:1bc–2ab, 2cd–3, 4–5, 6; Matthew 28:16–20.
