Acts 28:31—Proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

This weekend we celebrate the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta, who we also know as Mother Teresa. One of the things I think about when I ponder on the works of this saint is her boldness. I watched a video where she boldly spoke in front of world leaders, some who did not agree with her, about the dignity of life and the end to abortion. She was so strong in her convictions and her words reflected this. Her moral courage was so powerful that she has cared for the poorest of the poor with the most loving charity. We are all called to be charitable to our brothers and sisters as if our love for them portrays our love for God. This is how St. Teresa lived and breathed. She was bold and persistent to care for God’s creation.

Forty Hours Exposition and Adoration Next WeekendNext weekend we all will have the distinct opportunity to share in the special blessings of our solemn Forty Hours Exposition and Adoration. This is a chance to experience the moving and inspiring peacefulness that comes from individual prayer in solitude with Our Lord, especially in this very uncertain and challenging time. The Opening Ceremony will be at the regular 9:00 AM Mass on Friday, Sept. 11, with continuous exposition and adoration of the Eucharist until the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the 10:00 a.m. Mass.

We are still greatly in need of guardian adorers willing to commit to an hour (or more), especially in the late night and early morning time slots during that weekend. Sign-up sheets are online at the parish website under “Events.” If you have any questions, call Jeff Icsman at 513-321-3089 or email at [email protected].

To find out how to live a life like St. Teresa, go to the Catholic Relief Service website and go deeper into these ideas: https://www.crs.org/stories/5-ways-live-mother-teresa• Be an advocate for those without a voice• Be determined, but don’t be afraid to ask for help• Pray• Live humbly• Smile

Thirsting for God, Angelo D. Scolozzi, M.C.III.O.Now that a lot of people are working from home, it is a good time to keep some spiritual reading at your side. This book is a wonderful way to keep your faith life first every morning. Thirsting for God has daily meditations in the words of St. Teresa of Calcutta. This will give us some daily hope to go about our daily lives.

1 | RESPECT LIFE GROUP NEWS. There were 2 cars filled with donations from the Respect Life Group. This was all collected in the last few months. After the 9:00 Mass, Fr. Jacob blessed the offerings and the Respect Life Group delivered it to Old St. Mary’s Pregnancy Center and they were thrilled with the donations!

2 | WELCOME CHILDREN OF GOD. Welcome Reid Edward Woods, son of Brian and Katherine Woods. Welcome Darcy Rose Conroy, daughter of Eric and Julia Conroy.

3, 4 | CONGRATULATIONS! Clare Egan and Carmen DiCillo celebrated the sacrament of matrimony on Sat., Aug. 22. Chris Helmers and Margo Slonkosky celebrated the sacrament of matrimony on Sat., Aug. 22, 2020. Please keep our young couples in your prayers as they embark on this new adventure.

5 | CANOEING DOWN THE MISSISSIPPI. Parishioner Luke Findley and his brother Ben brought their canoe and family to get a blessing before their big adventure. They are going to take a few months to canoe down the entire Mississippi river. We had a good time praying and then catching up with the family. I’m excited for this wonderful adventure!

6 | CATHEDRAL BASILICA AT ST. PETER IN CHAINS. The Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains has been designated as a Minor Basilica by Pope Francis. The historic Cincinnati church will now go by the name Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains. “For all of us who live and worship in our archdiocese, this is a great blessing and honor that has been bestowed on our cathedral church,” said Arch-bishop Dennis Schnurr. “Let us pray on this day, as we honor Our Lady in her Assumption, that the Church of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, her clergy and faithful, along with all the people of this great city, may benefit from this blessing and give thanks for all that the Lord has brought to fruition.”

CATECHESIS (kat’i-ke’sis) n.What is purgatory?Purgatory, often imagined as a place, is actually a condition. Someone who dies in God’s grace (and therefore at peace with God and men) but who still needs purification before he can see God face to face is in purgatory. [1030-1031]

When Peter had betrayed Jesus, the Lord turned around and looked at Peter: “And Peter went out and wept bitterly” – a feeling like being in purgatory. Just such a purgatory probably awaits most of us at the moment of our death: the Lord looks at us full of love – and we experience burning shame and painful remorse over our wicked or “merely” unloving behavior. Only after this purifying pain will we be capable of meeting his loving gaze in untroubled heavenly joy. (YOUCAT question 159)

KNOW YOUR SAINTSBlessed Claudio Granzotto (1900-1947)Born in Santa Lucia del Piave near Venice, Clau-dio was the youngest of nine children and was accustomed to hard work in the fields. At the age of nine he lost his father. Six years later he was drafted into the Italian army, where he served

more than three years. His artistic abilities, especially in sculpture, led to studies at

Venice’s Academy of Fine Arts, which awarded him a diploma with the highest marks in 1929. Even then he was especially interested in religious art. When Claudio entered the Friars Minor four years later, his parish priest wrote, “The Order is receiving not only an artist but a saint.” Prayer, charity to the poor and artistic work characterized his life, which was cut short by a brain tumor. He died on the feast of the Assumption and was beatified in 1994.
