ST. TERESA OF AVILA CATHOLIC CHURCH AKRON, NEW YORK

In His goodness and wisdom God chose to reveal Himself and to make known to us the hidden

purpose of His will (Ephesians 1:9) by which through Christ, the Word made flesh, man might in the Holy Spirit have access to the Father and come to share in the divine nature (Ephesians 2:18; 2 Peter 1:4). Through this revelation, therefore, the invisible God (Colossians 1:15; 1 Tim 1:17) out of the abundance of His love speaks to men as friends (Exodus 33:11; John 15:14-15) and lives among them (Barach 3:38), so that He may invite and take them into fellowship with Himself. This plan of revelation is realized by deeds and words having an inner unity: the deeds wrought by God in the history of salvation manifest and confirm the teaching and realities signified by the words, while the words proclaim the deeds and clarify the mystery contained in them. By this revelation then, the deepest truth about God and the salvation of man shines out for our sake in Christ, who is both the mediator and the fullness of all revelation. That the earthly and the heavenly city penetrate each other is a fact accessible to faith alone; it remains a mystery of human history, which sin will keep in great disarray until the splendor of God’s sons is fully revealed. Pursuing the saving purpose which is proper to her, the Church does not only communicate divine life to men but in some way casts the reflected light of that life over the entire earth, most of all by its healing and elevating impact on the dignity of the person, by the way in which it strengthens the seams of human society and imbues the everyday activity of men with a deeper meaning and importance. Thus through her individual members and her whole community, the Church believes she can contribute greatly toward making the family of man and its history more human. Prayer For Priests and Religious

Almighty and eternal God, in your unfailing love you provide ministers for your Church. We pray for those whom you call to serve the Church as priests. Inspire in them a generous response. Grant them courage and vision to serve your people. May their lives and service call your people to respond to the pres-ence of your Spirit among us that, faithful to the Gospel and hope of Jesus the Christ, we may: announce glad tidings to the poor proclaim liberty to captives, set prisoners free and renew the face of the earth. Amen. God chooses from among the royal priesthood of the faithful a few to serve Him in a special way and to serve their brothers and sisters. This life is the ministry of a priest, religious sister or deacon. If you feel God is calling you to one such vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535.

The pastor was preaching his last sermon at a church, and afterward he was at the door greeting everyone. One little lady

came up, shook his hand, and said, “I’m so sorry we’re losing you.” The preacher said, “That’s all right; they’ll send you a good one next time.” The little lady replied, “Oh, they won’t either. That’s what they said the last time.”
