This goal is divided among the 66 parishes in our Diocese. Our parish goal for 2017 is $76,825.00. The goal for St. Charles in Pennington is $2,243.00. These numbers are based on our attendance, population and annual offertory. You will each receive an Annual Appeal letter from Bishop at home in your mailbox. There are also envelopes and prayer cards available here at St. Philip’s. Please pray about a gift to the Appeal. Take some time to enjoy the video today or check it out on the website at www.crookston.org/daa to see what a wonderful impact your gift will make. Bishop Hoeppner asks for your prayers and asks to be able to pray for your needs by using the prayer cards included in the mailing. Please send them whether or not you are able to make a gift.

Ø There will be no school Mass this week as the priests are out of town taking a class.

Ø Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 will be taking the full battery of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills this week. Following their regular schedule including plenty of sleep, exercise, and good eating should be all they need to do well.

Ø Report cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, February 8.

Ø Families will have a long weekend, February 17 – 20. We will have a teacher inservice day on Friday, and Monday is Presidents’ Day. Enjoy.

Ø Remember to drive slowly and cautiously in the parking lot at all times and to avoid parking along the sidewalk during peak traffic times (2:50 – 3:20 PM). Thank you.

Ø Go online to complete your Safe Environment Certification for 2016-2017. If you were certified during the 2015-2016 school year, you need to again be recertified this year. Please go to: www.crookston.org and following the prompts for Safe Environment. [You may have to “refresh” your cache once or twice.] This certification must be done annually and BEFORE you volunteer.

Pray for Vocations During the month of February the Chalice and Paten provided by the Knights of Columbus will be on display along with prayer cards in the Adoration Chapel. This is our reminder of the im-portance to pray for men considering the call to ordained life serving us through the priesthood. Please pick up a prayer card and say the prayer daily asking God for Good leaders Good Shepherds. If you can: prayerfully tell a young man why you think they would be a good priest… Remember to talk to God about your friend before talking to your friend about God…

LOW GLUTEN HOSTS Low gluten hosts are available at every Mass, daily or Sunday. Sometimes due to a medical condition, individuals are not able to receive the regular hosts that are used in Holy Communion. If you or someone you know needs a low gluten host, ask a greeter, sacristan, information station person, or a priest, we will be glad to assist. In order to receive: enter the communion line that is receiving from the presider. Indicate to the presider you wish a low gluten host. He will present the Body of Christ from a special pyx. For several weeks, Father Don, and Father Chuck, will be announcing the availability of a low gluten host at every Mass.

The Bemidji Knights of Columbus Council #1544 will be holding a major degree ceremony on 3-18-17. This is to invite all Catholic gentleman to join and you must be 18 years of age at that time. The ceremony will start at 9 AM and will conclude with lunch at approximately 1 PM. If any 1st Degree members wish to continue their journey to Knighthood, this would be a wonderful opportunity to attend. If you are interested in joining or have any questions please contact the Grand Knight Phil Hodapp at 218 766 0527 or the Financial Secretary Dan Shea at 218 760 6616.

NEED A WINTER RETREAT?

What a great time of year to take care of your spiritual health! Many in our parish have attended Cursillo weekends over the years and give great testimony to the power of such weekends. Cursillo is pronounced KER-SEE-O meaning - short course in Christianity. Weekends are being offered this winter at Sand Hill Bible Camp, just south of Fosston. The weekends include quiet time, inspirational talks, and most importantly, time to be with Jesus without the many distractions of daily life. The weekend starts Thursday evening and ends Sunday afternoon.

The Men's will be held February 23-26 and the Women's will be March 16-19.

If these dates do not work into your schedule there will also be weekends available this fall. The Men's will be held September 28-October 1 and the Women's will be October 26-29.

Contact Carol Olsonawski (218-689-9081) or Bobbi Mercil (701-866-5706) for more information. Applications can be printed at crookstoncursillo.weebly.com or picked up at the Parish Office.

St. Philip’s Children’s and Teen Choir

St. Philip’s Parish Teen and Children Choir are starting their winter session February 8th. Children’s Choir (2nd-5th grade) meets Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00 PM, and Teen Choir (6th-12th grade) meets Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45 PM. All are welcome. Contact Aana Freihammer, if your child is interested! [email protected]

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” ~ Matthew 5:16

The generosity of being a good steward of your gifts has a positive effect on people and it is contagious! Good works encourages more good works. Let your light shine! Be careful to recognize that God is working through you and don’t put yourself above the people you have been called to help.

FYI… Over the last couple weeks we have had individuals faint or require medical attention due to low blood sugar or low blood pressure. If you are on medication and require food with your medication you are exempt from the one hour fast before receiving Holy Communion. This even applies to the priest celebrating the Mass.

St. Philip’s Catholic Church - RCIA Program

This is part of a letter Fr. Chuck and Fr. Don received from Bishop Hoeppner. Please contact either of us if you are interested in joining us on March 9th as we travel to St. Paul…

My Dear brother priests, Election results present both new opportunities and new challenges. After this past November, that is certainly the case here in Minnesota. Protecting the vulnerable from assisted suicide, expanding parental choice in education, and strengthening families in their struggle to escape poverty are among some of the most pressing issues we face in our State Legislature.

Life and dignity must be protected. And Catholic voices count. Our lawmakers need to know where we stand, because we can make a difference. This is our call. This is our moment.

To make the most of these opportunities, the Minnesota Catholic Conference is hosting the first-ever Catholics at the Capitol, a day of inspiration and advocacy in St. Paul on Thursday, March 9, 2017. You and your parishioners are encouraged to join me, my brother bishops, and more than 1,000 fellow Catholics as we protect life and dignity in Minnesota. We’ll be:

• Inspired by dynamic Church leaders and the power of prayer • Informed about the critical issues impacting life and dignity in Minnesota • Equipped to influence our elected officials — they will listen!

If we don’t seize this moment and come together at our State Capitol on march 9, the push for assisted suicide in Minnesota will gain ground, underprivileged children will miss out on opportunities for a quality education, and too many families will remain trapped in a cycle of poverty.
