All are invited to come and join

these groups in prayer for the

needs of our parish family.

There is a wealth of resources in Spanish and English for Parishioners to grow together using common con-tent. Go to www.formed.org and use the log in with parish code: PTRKXD (case sensitive) and enjoy this opportunity.

Proclaim the Greatness of the Lord… Dear Friends: Because of the way the calendar fell this year, today we

celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent… and Christmas

Eve on the same day! So, I’ll wish you all a blessed Sun-

day and also a Blessed Christmas!

At the beginning of my Christmas homily, I always men-

tion how much fun it is to see parishioners with their fami-

lies who have come home for Christmas. It’s always good

to see our parishioners who are with us every week. And at Christmas, we see

many who aren’t at Mass as regularly as we hope you would be. To all of you,

please know how welcome you are, and allow me to invite you to return—over and

over again!

I want to extend a very special word of thanks to those who have dropped off gifts,

goodies, and the like over these days. Please know that your pastor doesn’t

“expect” that and I am grateful for each and every extension of support. Also,

many thanks to all of you on this Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas for your

generosity at the Sunday collection this weekend. You can imagine how the parish

community depends on both of these collections, and we always appreciate your

Christmas generosity. (And I am asked every year… does the Pastor get the Christ-

mas collection as was the case in many places many years ago? I can assure you

that the Pastor doesn’t!) Again, many thanks.

To be sure, the liturgical calendar is hard to follow this year. The way the calendar

falls, not only was the Advent Season short but the Christmas season is as well.

The Christmas Season ends on January 7 this year. That is the Feast of the Baptism

of the Lord. I believe the latest this Feast falls can be January 13 (which will hap-

pen next year). Next weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family and the

Mass schedule is as usual (Saturday at 4:30 pm and Sunday at 9:00 am and 11:30

am). Normally, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (January 1) is a holyday of

obligation. But this year it is not a holyday because of the way the calendar falls.

My Advent series was cut short this year due to the short Advent season and snow.

Thanks to those who came out to learn a bit about connections between the old and

new testaments. I look forward to my Lenten series… although I have not decided

what the topic will be. Please remember that during inclement weather we some-

times need to “make a call” when it comes to canceling events (such as my talk or

religious education). We try to make the decision by 1:30 or so on those days when

there are evening events so that people are aware. If there is a cancellation, we post

it on Flocknote, Facebook, and Channel 3. Please remember that making these de-

cisions are tough, because there are many factors to consider. So I appreciate in

advance your trusting our judgement as to whether an event will be held. Finally,

please know that Mass is never canceled… on the weekends or during the week.

(The commute from the rectory isn’t too bad)!

Have a blessed Christmas, and Praised be Jesus Christ!

 Fr. John
