From the pastor.. Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time LISTEN! A few weeks ago we heard God the Father say in the Gos-pel “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” In today’s Gospel Jesus says, If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you won over your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you… If he refuses to listen to them, tell the Church. If he refuses to listen even to the Church…” It is hard when we feel that someone is not listening to us, especially when we have been hurt. It is important to remember we are not alone when something like this happens. We can go to people who will help and support us. When people hurt others, they are usually hurt them-selves. When we can bring them into the love and support of the com-munity, often they are able to see things differently. With pencil and paper - can you recall a time when you did not feel listened to? How did it make you feel? - Why is it helpful to have a Church community, when people won’t listen to what is right? - gather the family and discuss how you can each try harder to listen this week. Suggest that they resolve to listen, even if someone is telling a story they have heard before. They can try to see different points of the story. They can listen more to family members and seek to under stand the other person when they disagree. LISTEN! Next Sunday is the Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings at Mass will be taken from Sirach 27:30 – 28:7, Romans 14:7-9, and Matthew 18:21-35. THANK YOU – to all of our Faith Formation Teachers. Thanks for this sacrificial, but well worthwhile commitment to share the faith with God’s children. Sadly, sometimes you will be the principal and/or only educator of the faith for these children. “In giving, you will receive.” The New Traffic Patterns – for the safety of all, especially on Sun-days, please cooperate and follow the new parking signs when leav-ing the parking lots. English and Spanish Faith Formation Classes have started. PATIENCE - the flow of traffic is complicated with children being dropped off and picked-up when Mass is letting out. The Parish Council will meet this Monday evening at 7 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will have a bake sale after all the Masses next weekend. Registered Parishioners – should have received a letter from me this week, which includes the annual finance report. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for the Auction on October 7th. See this bulletin for further information. The Annual Priest Retirement Collection – will be taken up next weekend (Sept. 16 & 17) and will continue until we meet this year’s goal of $14,103. Happily, this goal is almost $2000 less than last year’s goal. The amount is figured from 3.5% of last year’s regular collection amount from each parish. The amount from our Forward With Christ building campaign is not included in this assessment. The retired priests have given up families and homes, and the least we can do is provide for their years of retirement. Retirement age for a priest in the Diocese of Char-lotte is 70 years old. Most of the “officially retired priests” continue in active ministry, helping out throughout the Diocese. Please continue to be generous.

Auction News: The St. Philip “Forward with Christ” Auction set for October 7th @ 6:30 PM has tickets available now. Ticket in-cludes a sit down dinner, music & open bar for $75 per person or buy a table of 8 for $600. Sneak preview - one auction item is a special dinner for four prepared by Father Kessler. What a special night that will be! A few other items include lodging for 3 nights in Myrtle Beach, one week in a mountain cabin in Blowing Rock & a beautiful piano.
