Home Mission Sunday: The Home Mission Office exists to help the Church throughout England and Wales to share the joy of the Gospel. It can seem daunting to share such a personal part of our lives as our faith in Jesus Christ. However, we can pray that the people we carry in our hearts will encounter him for themselves. Prayer cards and prayer maps for families are available at the back of the church. The retiring collection this weekend ensures that the Catholic Faith Centre is resourced and is able to respond to those who have questions about the Catholic Faith. Visit www.homemission.org.uk for more information.

First Holy Communion 2018: Application forms for those children in Year 3 who are baptised Roman Catholic and who wish to make their First Holy Communion in 2018 are now available at the back of the church.

S.V.P. Meet on Tuesday September 19th at 7.30pm in the Coffee Bar.

Coffee & Natter: On Thursday September 21st following the 6.30pm mass in the Social Centre Lounge.

Knitting Club: Will not be meeting in September but will resume in October.

Baptisms: We welcome into the family of the church Denver Agbayani baptised today.

Ignite: You are invited to attend our IGNITE praise and worship evening on Friday 29th September starting at 6.30pm in the hall at St Peter’s RC High School. Our special guest contributor is the Basketball Freestyler TOMMY BAKER. Tommy is one of the key pioneers of the basketball freestyle world for drawing his inspiration from the world of circus juggling and starting his own brand of basketball freestyle. At IGNITE Tommy will share his skills and what his Christian faith means to him, through his passionate message 'Create, rather than copy.' We will also have live praise and worship music! Check out www.ignitegloucester.com for more information! Doors will open at 6.15pm and the evening will finish at approximately 9.00pm. This event is open to all adults, young people & local church groups. (Primary aged pupils will need to be accompanied).

Listening Post Invitation: Please join us on World Mental Health Day on Tuesday 1oth October 10.00am – 12 noon at Listening Post Counselling Charity, St Aldate Church, Finlay Road Gloucester, for a cuppa and a chat and to find out more about our work with adults in Gloucestershire suffering from mental health issues.

And Finally: In that first moment, when you settle into your seat, waiting for Mass to begin, who is it that you think of? Who is it that you wish were sitting beside you? After my mother died, it was difficult to come to Church without welling up in tears as I wished she were there. Then one day I asked God to show me that she was with Him, and experienced a sense of peace. Now my heart aches for those I care about who have stopped coming to Church. Perhaps they have drifted away or something has turned them away. Whatever the situation, I miss them and wish they were here. In today’s readings we are taken straight to the heart of the matter as we are asked to forgive those who have hurt us and to show mercy if we hope to receive it. This sentiment is as powerful as it is challenging. Whether thinking of an individual or a group of people who have offended us in some way, if we are able to show loving mercy rather than judgement, we open the door for them to turn towards Jesus. How? It all begins with a smile, a welcome, and prayer that we be released from the pain within. Then in going beyond ourselves, we step into Christ and do what may have seemed impossible – we forgive and are forgiven. Teresa Carvalho, Home Mission Development Officer, Home Mission Office.
