Born in Lourdes, France, Bernadette firstsaw the Blessed Mother when she wasfourteen. Appearing in a cave, Our Ladywas dressed in blue and white and askedBernadette to pray the Rosary with her.

Mary appeared to her eighteen times.Once, a spring began to flow from thecave. It had healing powers.

Our Lady knew that Bernadette wouldsuffer on earth, but she promised herhappiness in heaven.

Elizabeth is known as the firstAmerican-born Saint. At nineteen, shemarried William Seton. The couple raisedfive children.

Elizabeth was widowed at a young ageand became a Catholic not long afterWilliam’s death.

Always concerned about the educationof children, she opened the first Catholicschool in America. Elizabeth later founded the Sisters of Charity, which wasthe first American teaching Order of nuns.
