  • The Gloria S-280 Found in the Hymnal

    Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

    Collect of the Day

    Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us pray.

    Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

    The Lessons

    A Reading from the Book of Proverbs Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: “To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth—when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world’s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race.” The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

    A Song of Praise Benedictus es, Domine

    Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; * you are worthy of praise; glory to you.

    Glory to you for the radiance of your holy Name; * we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever. Glory to you in the splendor of your temple; * on the throne of your majesty, glory to you.

    Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; * we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever. Glory to you, beholding the depths; * in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.

    Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; * we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

    A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Romans Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

    Verse 1 before the Gospel; Verses 2&3 after the Gospel

    ! 5

  • The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John Glory to you, Lord Christ. Jesus said to his disciples, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

    The Sermon The Reverend Mark S. Forbes

    The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. AMEN.

    The Prayers of the People

    Leader

    Let us pray with faith to the blessed and glorious Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

    Silence

    Silence

    ! 6

  • Open human eyes to the wonder of things unseen … Make all lives richer in the hope of blessings more than we can comprehend … Give clearer vision to those in positions of power and influence.

    Silence Grant to us in our own lives a share in the mutual love of the Holy Trinity … May that unbroken harmony be shown in our families, in our work and in all our relationships.

    Silence

    Have mercy on those whose lives are crippled by strain and anxiety in themselves, and hostility to others … Release their tension, give them inward peace, restore them to wholeness which is your will for all.

    We pray for all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit, remembering especially …..

    We pray for the departed who in this world held fast to the faith of the Holy Trinity and now adore you for ever … May their example strengthen and prepare us for the coming of joy made complete and love made perfect in your heavenly Kingdom.

    We thank you for all life’s blessings, especially ….

    May our prayers be received in the unity of the Holy Trinity, three Persons and one God. Amen.

    Finally, we pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The Priest continues Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. AMEN.

  • The Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

    Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost;

    The Great Thanksgiving: Eucharistic Prayer B

    Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

    The Celebrant continues It is right and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

    For with your co-eternal Son and Holy Spirit, you are one God, one Lord, in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of Being; and we celebrate the one and equal glory of you, O Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

    Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

    Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

    Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

    Hosanna in the highest. The Celebrant continues We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

    On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

    ! 8

  • After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

    Therefore, according to his command, O Father,

    Celebrant and People We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory;

    And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

    We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with Patrick and all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation.

    By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

    And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

    WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS IMPORTANT PARISH FORUM - TODAY

    Following the 10:30 a.m. service this morning, please join the Adult Forum to hear an important presentation about the possibility of creating a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) on land adjacent to, and currently owned by St. Patrick's. An adjoining landowner would potentially participate in this venture and would commit land that, merged with that of St. Patrick's, would provide adequate space for such a facility. The proposers, two members of St. Patrick's and the adjoining landowner, a past member, have offered to form a partnership to underwrite a study to evaluate the viability of such an undertaking. As proposed, this would be a nonprofit venture, similar in nature to the Deerfield community in Asheville, also an Episcopal affiliate. The partners envision it would be of benefit to both the community and to members of St. Patrick's. Their intention would be to build a warm and inviting facility to care for our aging community.

    Inspire-Connect-Embrace-Share

    PULSE OF VISION AND MISSION Last week Canon Rhonda Lee’s introduction to Ignation Spirituality called us to: accept the reality of sin and the loving grace of God; to be open to answering God’s call to follow Jesus more closely; to be faithful in suffering with Jesus and to live sharing peace and joy in the light of his resurrection.
