MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ASSEMBLY #3361 Serving Flint, Lindale and Whitehouse, TX What are you giving up for Lent? This is a question many of us hear this time of year and have heard for as long as we can remember. Why do we give things up for Lent? What does this have to do with preparing for Easter? Is this really church teaching and an annual obligation? Well, the short of it is we are asked to make a sacrifice to remember the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us on Good Friday. The simplest definition of a sacrifice is to go without something that we need or think we need. This is where we get the “giving up” something for Lent. This goes along with following in Jesus’ path as he gave up his life for us. We can also look at sacrifice from the perspective of doing something more, doing something we don’t normally do, something that will enhance our spiritual life and bring us closer to God. This is also following in Jesus’ path because on Good Friday, Jesus died for our sins. So, whether you give up something or do something extra, remember that you are making a sacrifice that should keep Jesus in the forefront of your mind as you prepare for the coming of Easter. The links below will help clear up some of the other common questions we may hear or have ourselves about our obligations and things we can do during this season of Lent. What are you giving up for Lent? This is a question many of us hear this time of year and have heard

for as long as we can remember.

Message from our Faithful Navigator

It's been a rewarding year in our assembly so far this fraternal year. We've accomplished much and have some exciting events ahead of us. We’ve just had our first memorial chalice ceremonies for two of our fallen brother sir knights, James Purcell and Louis Owen. On 11 March in Carthage we will be welcoming eight new sir knights into our assembly at the exemplification there, thereby exceeding our new membership goal. All of this means we are well on our way for qualification for our first Star Assembly Award at the end of the fraternal year. Just goes to show you what we can do when we put our hearts and minds together and work together for the good of the order.

Vivat Jesus!
