Thank you for supporting St. Mary’s Parish!

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday – Jan. 18 In 1983, President Ronald Reagan designated January 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day. Since then, the Sunday closest to January 22 (Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion) has been acknowledged as Sanctity of Human Life Sun-day. This year, that Sunday falls on January 18. As God’s people, St. Mary’s & Divine Mercy will spend

time in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament and in prayer for the end of abortion and for respect for all human life. Divine Mercy Parish – Exposition of the Blessed Sacra-ment and a Pro Life Rosary, following the 10:30 am Mass, with Benediction at 12 Noon. St. Mary of the Cataract – Exposition & Pro Life Ro-sary, following the 12 Noon Mass. Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Benediction at 3:00 pm. Please plan to join us for part or all of the hours at either or both parishes, as we ask Our Lord and His Blessed Mother to give our country a heart that will welcome all life, no matter how fragile or inconvenient.

A Vocation View: The Son of God is manifested to the world first through the visit of the magi. Today God’s Son is brought into

the world and is present to the world through His Church. If you think God is Calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Walter Szczesny at 716-847-5535

CONTINUE TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS The Feast of the Epiphany, January 4 - Epiphany means “manifestation”, and so this feast is the celebration of God’s glory

being manifest to all nations, symbolically through the Magi. This is a good day to set the Magi in the nativity scene and share the story from the Gospel of Matthew. Epiphany is also a traditional day to bless homes. This blessing incorporates inscribing the year, bracketing the initials of the Magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar) above the door, usually in chalk. Another tradition claims the initials stand for Christus mansionem benedicat, mean-ing “May Christ bless this home”.

Please remember to support our Monthly Community Event. Students receive at least one community service hour (or more) depending on the event just for participating. Thank you to eve-ryone who brought in coats, food and an unwrapped toy! Your generous donations will help many! The community event for January will benefit the Niagara County SPCA. Please bring in food, toys, treats and anything else you can think of for the Niagara County SPCA. The February community event will be making Valentine’s for Veterans. There will be no

Religious Education on January 4 due to Christmas Vacation. Please be aware that your child (ren) is sent home with a monthly calendar. If you did not receive one please see me. Calendars for January were sent home on the 14th of December, if you did not get one please see me! Should you have any questions, comments or concerns about Religious Education please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is [email protected] (please include a subject so you do not go directly to spam). With blessings, Alyson Danielewicz
