2015 Irish Sweepstake Winners for August 2

Congratulations to our $500.00 winner, Larry Werner

and or $100.00 winner, Pat Nordhoff.

St. Mary Parish will be doing a “homemade dressing” fund-

raiser for the Ireland Bicentennial. We will be taking orders for

dressing that we will be making in November. Please keep us in

mind when ordering dressing for the holidays. We know it is

early but we wanted to get the word out. We will be needing

clean gallon ice cream buckets. These can be dropped off at the

parish office.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

On Monday Fr. Jeff and I along with the staff of Holy Trinity Catholic School attended the Diocesan opening Mass for our Catholic Schools.

The Diocesan theme for this year is “Christ is the cornerstone.” As the Bishop spoke, he mentioned a quote from St. Theodore Guerin. “Love

the children first, and then teach them.” This quote is Christ like. Jesus taught us first to love our neighbor then teach about the Kingdom of

God. This will be our goal throughout this first year of our School.

I am grateful for the many people who have given of their time talent and treasure to make Holy Trinity a reality. The uniting of all 11 parishes

to the goal of Catholic Education is a blessing in deed. The efforts of the Core Group, the School Transition team and our new School Council

are deeply appreciated. The hard work and dedication of our talented staff is remarkable and valued. The leadership of Mrs. Sternberg and Mr.

Lemen is evident and a blessing. Please continue to pray for God’s guidance as we continue this process to make the best use of the resources

in our deanery for all the people in our area.

It is important for Catholic Education to be the best it can be and for our Public School systems to be the best they can be. We are blessed with

amazing schools and we must always strive to do our best for the children. We have only one future and that is with the children. We must

educate them well, as we do this, we must love them as Christ loves all of God’s children. As we begin this school year please keep all stu-

dents, parents, teachers and administrators in your prayers. Yours in Christ,

Fr. Gary Kaiser

September 13 Picnic Information

Have extra blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc and

not know what to do with them? Bring your frozen berries

to the parish office and we will store them until picnic time

and use them for the Country Store. They will be used in

our baked items. Also, be sure and keep a few extra jars of jelly for us

to sell at picnic time. You can bring them to the parish office and we

will store them for you.

We need your support. If you are not currently on a quilt group,

please consider donating $35 and having your name added to a group.

If you are on a group, make sure your donation is made either to the

parish office or the person in charge of your group. That is all you

have to do. The more quilts we have, the longer the crowd stays.

Please donate if you can. **The Quilt Show will be Thursday,

August 27, 11:00am to 6:00pm in the church. Drop your completed

quilts at the parish office so we can get them marked off and ready

for the show.

Never to early to be thinking about your Theme Basket. We have

had some great ideas in the past and look forward to what might be

donated this year. Fishing, camping, quilting, cooking, kids, John

Deere, Coca-Cola, car care, hair care, etc are just some of the ideas

that have been used in the past.

Surprise Bag Booth: 700 items $.10 to $10. New or like-new items

(books, games, bubbles, jump ropes, etc). If your time is limited you

may donate to the Surprise Booth and we will do the shopping for

you. Items may be dropped off at the parish office or placed in the

container in the church vestibule. Call Pat Bohnenkamper 631-2904

or Mary Ann Robling at 482-6387 for more information.

Needed for Picnic - Empty, clean baby food jars with lids - all sizes

would be appreciated. Bring to the parish office.

If you were not on last year’s workers list, we could use volunteers of

all ages. Call the parish office and we will put you on the list. We

are looking for some parishioners who are wanting to do a little

more for their parish and picnic is a great time to do so. If you

cannot work on picnic Sunday, please consider working Thursday,

Friday or Saturday before the picnic.

Catechist Corner

Would you like to grow in your faith, learn the teachings of our church and deepen your relationship with Jesus?

Consider being a catechist! Previous teaching experience is not necessary and lesson plans are prepared for you. Don’t be afraid that you don’t know every detail of your faith - part of being a catechist involves openness to learning as you teach. As a Cate-chist you not only help our youth grow in their faith, you too will grow in yours. We have a great group of adults who help on Tuesdays during the day and Wednesday evenings but could use a few more to complete our team. Please consider helping out with this ministry. If interested contact Martha Schmitt at 482-7041 or by email [email protected] Martha

Bosco

Registration for National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) is

due Friday, August 21. To register contact Carley for the necessary

forms and turn them in along with a $100 deposit. The total cost for

participants is $300. For more info, contact Carley Knapp at 812-481-

2442 or [email protected].

**Bosco Car Wash on Saturday, August 22, 12:30pm to 4:30pm, at

St. Joseph North Parking Lot. Proceeds will go toward NCYC ex-

penses.

The Brute Society Induction Ceremony will be held at Saint Benedict

Cathedral on November 1 at 2:30pm EST. Nominees for this award

must be good stewards of their time and talent for St. Mary. If you

know of someone who is not necessarily active now but several years

ago played an important part in our parish, please feel free to nomi-

nate them. Send a letter or email of the individual/couple you would

like to nominate and why to Father Gary by August 18.

CRAVE - Join us this Monday evening, August 10, 6:30-8:00pm, in the parish rectory. This will be a short 3 week study based on an interview between a Catholic priest and

a protestant minister called “Common Ground”. This is a great little study to help us understand the similarities and the differ-ences in our beliefs. You will be intrigued by their open discussion about: Salvation - Holy Eucharist - The Virgin Mary - Confession - The Saints - Prayer and Worship - and much more. This is a great way to better understand our faith, our actions and our be-liefs. This study is open to everyone and there is not cost.

Sponsor Couples - We are looking for couples who would be willing to talk to engaged couples about life as a married couple. We currently have some couples within our parish who have al-ready volunteered but are looking for more couples to step up and help us out. You do not meet with them every week or even every month and you will have a book to help with your sessions. Please consider volunteering for this ministry - there are a lot of weddings on the books for 2015 & 2016 so lots of help is needed. Call the parish office for more information.

Catechists - Save the Date

Faith Formation Day: Creating One Body in the Digital Age on

Saturday, August 29, 8:00am to 2:00pm CST. This event is for

anyone who is involved with any age level of Faith Formation.

The day is filled with good fellowship and a way to meet and

network with other catechists in the diocese. For more infor-

mation or to register, call Martha at 812-482-7041 ext 45.

There will be a Healing Mass today, August 9, at St. Mary

Church, Huntingburg. Fr. Biju Thomas will be the Celebrant.

Praise and Worship will begin at 3:00pm with Mass starting at

4:00pm. Exodus 23: 25 “Worship the Lord your God, and his

blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness

from among you.” Everyone is welcome!
