From the Pastor: Today we enter the final octave before The Nativity of Our Lord. During these days there are special “antiphons,” or sung acclamations which express a truth about God in history, and beckon God to do something for us. They have been used since the 8th century and are sung before and after the Magnificat, the Canticle of Mary which she recites after encountering her cousin Elizabeth (Luke 1:46-55).

The Magnificat is a psalm of praise that expresses “themes found elsewhere in Luke: joy and exultation in the Lord; the lowly being singled out for God’s favor; the reversal of human fortunes; the fulfillment of Old Testament promises,” (from footnote of Lk 1:46-55 in The New American Bible). Each of the Antiphons is a short prayer in its own right. We might do well to pray each of the Antiphons in the coming week as we prepare to celebrate Christmas. December 17 - O Come, Thou Wisdom, from on high, and order all things far and nigh; to us the path of knowledge show, and teach us in her ways to go. December 18 - O Come, O Come, Thou Lord of might, who to thy tribes on Sinai's height in ancient times didst give the law, in cloud, and majesty, and awe. December 19 - O Come, Thou Rod of Jesse's stem, from every foe deliver them that trust Thy mighty power to save, and give them victory over the grave. December 20 - O Come, Thou Key of David, come, and open wide our heavenly home, make safe the way that leads on high, that we no more have cause to sigh. December 21 – O Come, Thou Dayspring from on high, and cheer us by thy drawing nigh; disperse the gloomy clouds of night and death's dark shadow put to flight. December 22 - O Come, Desire of the nations, bind in one the hearts of all humankind; bid every strife and quarrel cease and fill the world with heaven's peace. December 23 – O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.

LET IT FLOW!!! Southern India Bore Well Project Completed!!! Fr. Santiago from the Diocesis of Sivagangai in southern India sent photos of the completed well funded by St. Willebrord parish members. Over $7,000 was raised in the Spring of 2017! There is now clean water for drinking and washing hands for the community and the students of St. Joseph Catholic Middle School. It is one of the oldest schools and they teach the poor children of the surrounding villages. A well blessing was held outside the Ananda Charismatic Prayer Center at St. Arul Anandar Church in Tamil Nadu.

blessed to have such a loving and giving community here at St. Willebrord.

Dejen el agua correr!!! Se complete el proyecto del pozo de agua que se hizo en India!!! El Padre Santiago de al Diócesis de Sivagangai en el sur de India mando unas fotos del pozo que fue echo con los fondos que los parroquianos de St. Willebrord recaudaron en la Primavera de 2017. Fue mas de $7,000! Ahora tienen agua potable para beber y lavarse las manos en la comunidad y para los estudiantes de la escuela católica secundaria de San José. Es una de las escuelas mas viejitas y ellos se encargan de darle cla-ses a los niños de familias pobres de esa comunidad. Muchas gracias por sus oraciones y do-naciones que nos ayudaron a que este pro-yecto se completara. Somos muy bendecidos por tener una comunidad tan bondadosa aquí en Nuestra Parroquia de San Willebrord.

Mensaje de nuestro Párroco: Hoy entramos en la octava final antes de La Natividad de Nuestro Señor. Durante estos días hay "antífonas" especiales de Adviento, o aclamaciones cantadas que expresan una verdad acerca de Dios en la historia y lo claman para que escuche nuestras plegarias. Estas antífonas datan del siglo octavo y se cantan antes y después del el Cántico del Magnificat, el cual María recita después de encontrarse con su prima Isabel (Lucas 1: 46-55).

El Magnificat es un cantico de alabanza que expresa “temas que se encuentran en otras partes del evangelio de Lucas: gozo y jubilo en el Señor; el humilde es exaltado con la gracia de Dios; lo opuesto de la fortuna humana; el cumplimiento de las promesas del Antiguo Testamento ”(de la nota de la página Lc 1: 46-55 en The New American Bible). Cada Antífona es una breve oración en si misma.
