The institution manage to get one brush cutter from our Quality Manager which was of great help. The project was a success as the staff members from different department worked very hard and the day was joyous and staff members supported each other and team spirit was evident. A the day progresses the Board Members who came for the meeting, also joined the working team, displaying their skills of gardening as they find the CEO busy with her team.

Team Leaders for Operation Clean-Up

Our hospital was in an unacceptable condition as we didn't have brush cutters, our acting CEO

called the general meeting to explain the situation and her vision of `Sukuma Silungise Ko-

nakele. The vision was accepted with great pleasure by the management and the staff. It was

suggested that that all members to donate R5.00 towards preparation of the project for the

working group to have something to eat. The institution manage to get one brush cutter from

our Quality Manager which was of great help.

The project was a success as the staff members from different department worked very hard

Commemoration of World AIDS Day. Activities for the day Candle lighting Prayer Distribution of condoms and IEC material The ceremony was held at HAST clinic where the first 2 activities took place. In the morning of the ceremony, red ribbons which were donated by the Pharmacy department were dis-tributed to all staff and patients. Non nursing staff brightened the day by wearing red and white attire for the day. The ceremony was attended by the CHF from TB HIV Care, the hospital staff inpatients, and outpatients. The content touched on the devastating effects this dis-ease has caused. A moment of silence was observed to remember all those who succumbed to AIDS related infections. Prayer which gave us hope and strength to continue this battle was given to the audience. All the people who attended were thanked by the Operational Manag-er of the clinic. The ceremony was closed in prayer at 12H00. A walk followed to the nearby tavern and shop and on the way condoms and pamphlets were distributed. The day was a success.

MMC camp held on the 6th

and 7th

of December 2012

Activities day 1(6/12/2012)

This was the first day of the camp.

All the clinic staff was on duty. The lay counselor who was on leave was recalled. Nursing and non-nursing staff from the wards also assisted.

The boys were collected from different locations assisted by TB /HIV Care association and the hospital transport.

Community mobilization continued.

Performing the procedure was our doctor from the hospital and the rest were from our partners TB HIV Care.

The camp started off with prayer. The Hospital Management, TB HIV Care, and the clients lis-tened to the encouraging words from the Systems Manager Mr. Cele. This was done in the waiting area of the HAST clinic.

HCT, vital signs and registration were done which included consent for the procedure which was either written or telephonic depending on the age of the client and the availability of the parent or guardian.

57 clients were offered HCT and only 1 was reactive and was referred to his nearest clinic (Lourdes) for CCMT programme.

In total, all 57 clients between the ages of 11 and 24 were done MMC of which there were no complications.

Post procedure care done included the vital signs, health education, pain killers and antibiotics to take home, lunch was also served.

TB HIV Care closed the day with a briefing with the hospital management.

In total ± 33 staff members from THCA assisted in the camp.

There were no clients who slept over. The clients were all transported back home with

no complications

Day 2 (7/12/2012)

Transportation from the client’s areas was done by the hospital assisted by our partners.

Our 1hospital doctor was doing the procedure assisted by the registered nurse from Rietvlei Hospital.

15 clients from ages 12 to 27 years of age were done HCT and none were reactive, MMC was performed to all of them. The post care was the same as day one.

2 clients needed medical attention post procedure as one was bleeding and the other had a low blood pressure. Both had an intravenous infusion of Ringer’s Lactate, were stabilized and dis-charged home.

In the afternoon the camp was officially closed by the hospital management.

The camp was a success considering that this was our first ever project.

The total done was 72 with only 1 HCT reactive client.

These are the Senior Citizens whom we bidding farewell to , they have served St Margaret’s with distinction and loyalty. Sr NC Sishuba arrived at SMH in 1973 that mean she has been with SMH for 39 years and Sr PN Tshazi arrived in 1976 she has been here for 36 years. These ladies have been at the heart of SMH and their loyalty has been shown by the number of years they have served this community of Clysdale.

They have set a trend and a challenge to the staff at SMH to serve with heart and passion till they break the record they have set.

St Margaret’s has been fortunate enough to have such stalwarts working amongst them, their dedication has rub off to their colleagues having left the institution their presence is missed dear-ly. We are glad to have been with your in our midst.
