Emergency Closings As the weather begins to change, please remember our policy on Emergency Closings. In the event, our school is closed, we will send an Instant Alert message to all school families in re-gards to specific closing information. The following guidelines will be adhered to: All Catholic elementary schools in Jefferson Co. are OPEN: We will operate on our regular schedule. All Catholic elementary schools in Jefferson Co. will be OPEN, but on a DELAYED SCHED-

ULE: The school building will be open at 9:00 a.m. Classes will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 2:45pm.

All Catholic elementary schools in Jefferson Co. are CLOSED. Schools are open unless announced otherwise. Once we are in school, students will not be dismissed unless a parent or guardian is notified. Please do not call the school seeking early dismissal information. In the event school is dismissed early due to weather or other circumstances, parents will be notified during the day via the Instant Alert system and they will also receive an e-mail with the closing information. On these specific days, all activi-ties for that day (sports or academic practices) will be cancelled. Should you have any ques-tions, please contact the school office for more information. We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Santa’s Workshop & Pancake Breakfast Remember this Sunday is Santa’s Workshop. Santa will be here after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses. Don’t forget to go to the cafeteria and enjoy a free pancake breakfast.

Spanish Club meeting The next Spanish Club meeting for students in grades 3-8 will be Monday, December 9, 2013, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Please make arrangements to pick your child up at this time.

Principal’s Coffee and Common Core Chat Please join Mrs. Sims on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, for an open forum discussing the Common Core curriculum. This event will take place from 7:45 a.m. –

8:30 a.m. in the Library meeting room. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

Beta Club Meeting The next Beta Club meeting will be held on December 11, 2013, from 3:00-3:45 p.m. Please make arrangements to pick your child up at this time.

SMM Christmas Concert You are invited to a Christmas concert presented by Supernova and Encore School Choirs and Band Concert on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at 6:30pm in the PAC. Please come support these students as they bring the spirit of the holidays through music to St. Margaret Mary.

Spirit Day—Sponsored by Student Council PJ Day will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013. We encourage everyone to wear their pa-jamas to school. We do ask that the students not wear slippers, tank tops or hats of any kind. All clothing apparel should be appropriate. Please remember if you have to ask if you can wear it, then it is probably not appropriate.

High School Placement Information If you have an 8

th grade student taking the High School Placement Test, the scheduled test date

is Saturday, December 14, 2013. To help your child perform to his or her full potential, we ask that families please try to adhere to the following guidelines:

Make sure your child gets enough rest the night before the test.

Make sure your child eats a good breakfast (no sugary cereals or donuts).

Make sure your child arrives to the test site on time.

Keep your child healthy so they do not miss the test. Students should arrive with two number 2 pencils and $10.00. No calculators are al-lowed. The test will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The students should remember the school code for St. Margaret Mary (052) which is necessary to ensure that your child’s test re-sults are sent to SMM in a timely fashion. Should your child be ill or unable to take the test on December 8th, there will be a make-up test given in January. Parent Reminders regarding Dismissal Parents, please take a minute to read the policies listed below regarding dismissal. Parents making a change in their child’s normal transportation routine are asked to call or e-

mail the school office by 1:00 p.m. If you need to pick up your child before normal dismissal, please come to the school of-

fice. Do not go to your child’s classroom. Your child will be called to the office upon your arrival. For safety reasons, students leaving school early must be signed out 20 minutes prior to dismissal (2:25 p.m. for normal dismissal and 12:55 p.m. for early dismis-sal). If you arrive after this time, you will not be permitted to exit the premises until the buses have left the premises.

For additional information, please refer to page 17 in the school handbook. We appreciate your attention to this matter.

News from the Librarian The Birthday Book Club is a way to celebrate your child’s birthday in a special way and help our library collection grow at the same time. Participation in the program involves a $15.00 donation per book (one per child). News from the Women’s Ministry The Women’s Ministry of St. Margaret Mary presents Ministry Of Mothers Sharing, a nine week spiritual journey that deepens an awareness of the ministry of being a mother. Sessions will be on Thursday evenings in Room A/B from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. beginning Jan 9

News from the Parish Office The Nativity – with Br. Bob Baxter will be presented on December 17

th from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in

the Hospitality Room. Saint Francis of Assisi is credited with creating the first nativity scene in 1223 intending thereby to cultivate the worship of Christ, having been inspired by his recent visit to the Holy Land where he had been shown Jesus's traditional birthplace. In this session, Br. Bob Baxter will lead us in a reflection on the nativity that will help us prepare for Christmas. If you have questions, please contact Jerid Miller at [email protected].

News from the MOMS The MOMS annual Christmas Party will be held on December 18th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the SMM Hospitality Room. Anyone who has participated in MOMS in the past or is interested in at-tending this spring or just wants more information can join us! The theme for this event is the 12 Days of Christmas. Everyone should bring an appetizer or dessert and a white elephant gift that relates to the 12 Days of Christmas theme.
