Outreach Ministry
If you have a homebound family member or parishioner
friend who cannot make it to church, please call the parish
office; we can arrange to have cards sent to our homebound
parishioners to let them know we are thinking and praying for
them, and we can arrange for Mr. Moreira, our Pastoral
Minister, a priest or deacon to visit and bring communion.
Please also let us know of any parishioners who may be
hospitalized or recovering from surgery in a rehab facility and
would like a visit from the parish.
PARISH PROTOCOL DURING THE COLD AND
FLU SEASON
(Advent to Holy Week)
This seems an appropriate time to suspend the reception of the chalice
at Mass as we enter the cold and flu season. If you have a bad cold or
flu, you are dispensed from the Sunday Mass obligation. Also,
simply acknowledge people at Mass with a friendly nod or gesture if
you have a cold. Hand disinfectant is available at all the doors of the
Church.
Stay well!

January 27, 2019
Last Sunday’s snow/ice storm really woke us up that we
are in the middle of winter. The attendance reflected the
storm: 8 AM Mass- 48 people, and 10:30 AM- 85 people. The
best part of the weekend was the victory of the Patriots over
Kansas City!! Atlanta, here we come…again!! Get ready for
Feb. 3rd at 6:30 PM. Go Pats!!
In today’s Gospel, St. Luke presents his version of the
mission of Jesus of Nazareth. Interestingly, Luke tells his
listeners that he wants to write things down that he has
heard from the eye witnesses and after “investigating
everything anew.” His introduction is one, long, formal
sentence for his patron, Theophilus (Friend of God). He then
writes in common Greek for his followers.
The initial actions of Jesus are noteworthy. He went to
the synagogue on Sabbath as was his custom. He read from
Isaiah (61:1-3). So far, so good. But then he proclaims that
the prophesy of Isaiah is being fulfilled right now…in him.
The public response was immediate, and for Nazareth, very
sad. They threw him out of the synagogue and intended to
throw him off a cliff. He walked away…and never returned
to what was considered his home town. So much for a
hero’s welcome back home! Jesus relocated and lived mostly
in Capernaum by the Sea of Galilee. St. Luke’s very pastoral
presentation of the Good News has begun.

Blessings,
Monsignor Darcy
