The Most Holy Trinity—27 May 2018

Growing in FaithTM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Matthew 28:16-20 The Most Holy Trinity

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jesus appeared to the Apostles on the mountain top in Galilee, so they could receive their final instructions. They were to go forth, baptize, and make disciples, and to teach what they had been taught. These are our instructions, too. Once we meet Jesus and experience His love for us, we can’t keep Him to ourselves. We must share Him. Jesus also revealed to the Apostles, and to the crowd gathered with them, that God is a Trinity —Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – three Divine Persons united in love. The belief that God is three, yet one, is distinct to Christianity. When we became members of the Church, we were baptized in the name of the Trinity. The Trinity is a mystery we may not fully understand, but we can still live in its love and power. We proclaim our faith in it whenever we make the Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Our ultimate goal is to follow Christ into the eternal life of the Trinity. ~~GIF, May 2018 Issue
Fr. Rader will resume his column upon his return.
“Reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we see that even our most difficult trials
can be the place where God manifests his victory.
He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new.”
SAY GOOD-BYE AND THEN HELLO By Fr. O'Dell
(from May 2016)
May is known for a lot of great things - warm weather, flowers, and the start of summer. It's also a time to say "good-bye." It's a time to say good-bye to the present school year as summer break begins. It's a time to say good-bye to the routine of a schedule that doesn't allow for a lot of variation in favor of greater freedom. It's time to say good-bye to long sleeves, jackets and sweaters. It is also about saying good-bye to good friends who are branching out into new ventures, to long time companions who will be going to live some place different in just a few days or weeks, to job descriptions or assignments that will change in ways about which we aren't completely sure. May is a happy month as we finish things we have labored long and hard to accomplish - but no matter how you cut it, saying good-bye in the process is something most of us like to avoid. This past couple of weeks we’ve had to say good-bye to students from Lennox and the surrounding area who have graduated and are moving on to new things. We’ve had to say good-bye to friends who are moving a distance away. We've said good-bye to people to whom we’ve been close who have gone back to God in death. No matter how old you get, saying good-bye is one of the "side effects" of life that we wish were different. Obviously, saying good-bye is hard. On the other hand, every time we say good-bye to someone or some experience - we are saying hello to someone new or hello to an experience that is new to us. Sometimes saying good-bye means we help others we are close to say hello to new things in their lives. As I said earlier I’m going to really miss the students from all over that I have gotten close to in the last four or five years. Saying good-bye to them makes me feel sad. But, when I think of the new experiences they will find, the new people they are going to meet, the new places they will visit, I can't help but be happy for them. When you stop and think about it, saying good-bye allows us the opportunity to experience the new blessings God is sending our way. It’s human nature to want to hold on to what we have. We don't want to lose anything important or meaningful to us. We like to grab on - and grab on tight to people and things that really count. Sometimes though, in our effort to hold on, we can cheat ourselves out of being fully and totally open to the surprises God has in store for us just around the corner. So, how do we learn to say "hello" to all of the new things waiting for us - and at the same time, say good-bye to the things we cherish and still hold them close to our heart. Well, the first step is to trust that change is part of God's design for each and every one of us - and for the world and the universe, too. When we trust that God has the Big Picture then we can
be content to let that Big Picture play out for us in God's time and God's way. We don't need to be second guessing God all of the time. Second, I think we need to trust in the Providence and Goodness of God - that whatever happens in our lives - whatever good-byes and hellos we are challenged to make in our journey toward Heaven they all ultimately happen for our well-being. Perhaps we don't always understand what those good-byes and hellos will mean for us down the road - but if we trust in God fully, more will be revealed to us at the right time. Third, remember that it is okay to remember and okay to anticipate. It's okay to remember all of the many blessings we have had in the past and to anticipate the blessings that will come our way in the future, but we are called to live in the blessings of the present. Living in the day makes it much easier for us to say good-bye and then to turn with joy to say hello. When we live in the present 24 hours we are much more likely to "let go" of what happened yesterday, entrusting it to God. We are also much more likely to reach out for the new experiences and relationships of tomorrow, because our heart and our mind are open to where God is leading us. Have a good and blessed week as you say good-bye to some - and hello to others.
LTPTM—Reflecting & Living on the Word Matthew 28:16-20
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,...”
There is something about being made in the image of God that calls us to be connected to our fellow brothers and sisters in a deep and vulnerable way.
How do you experience God through your relationships with others?
Discipleship is best practiced with others. Try this with your family. Write your name in the middle of a piece of paper and then the names of important people in your life. Draw an arrow pointing to those that you give something to and an arrow from those that you receive something from. Notice which direction most of your arrows point and talk about ways that you feel others love and support you.
