Page 2 FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTION

First Friday and First Saturday Devotions

http://www.catholictradition.org/Two-Hearts/sacred-heart3b.htm

The First Friday of each month was desired by Jesus Christ to be consecrated to the devo on and adora on of His most Sa-cred Heart. Jesus revealed this desire to the Blessed Margaret Mary. On the day itself we should offer and consecrate our-selves, with all our thoughts, words, and ac ons, to Jesus, that His Sacred Heart may be thereby honored and glorified. In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour. The First Friday devo on and the First Saturday devo on are both reparatory devo ons. The First Friday devo on is associated with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, while the First Saturday devo on is associated with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Both devo ons are similar in that they call on the faithful to “stand in the gap” by doing penance for sinners, and both give a special promise of Divine assistance at the hour of death, that is , the promise of dying in a state of grace and therefore obtaining heaven.

We worship our Lord by singing and praying in ways that gently introduce our youth to this special devo on.

“The me you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best me you will spend on earth.” - Mother Teresa

Is your family thirsty for a way to be closer to one another? Feeling the n e e d f o r a s p i r i t u a l b o o s t ? The Sacrament of the Anoin ng of the Sick helps unite those who are suffering with Jesus' saving and healing power. Through this sacrament people receive forgiveness for their sins and comfort in their suffering; they are restored in spirit; and some mes they even experience the return of physical health. Suffering is a part of life, but Jesus unites our suffering with his passion and death so that through our suffering we can par cipate in his saving and healing work. The sacrament also reminds us that God wants to give comfort to the suffering and wants us to relieve suffering where we can.

For his Eagle Scout project, Jeremy planned, fundraised and executed a project to replace the sandbox and the playground for a local preschool.

Jeremy wrote: “My project was completed in February and went extremely well despite the weather condi ons. On the first day, I removed and replaced the exis ng sandbox borders and formed the area for the cement slab. The second day, the cement was poured early morning and I began steps to finish the concrete by smoothing and compac ng the surface. This process took a majority of the day but the finished product was worth it.”

Congratula ons Jeremy on an honor well deserved!

• Contact service provider to block internet access and calls from unapproved phone numbers.

• Designate certain mes that cell phone must be turned off (family meals, school hours, a er 10 p.m.)

• Insist that parental permission is required for the down-load of any and all apps.

Merle E. Bivens Sandy Verdegem’s father

Almighty God, our Rock and our Salvation, we beg you to pour out your Holy Spirit upon our nation.

Heal the divisions that separate us and remove all obstacles to authentic unity.

May you guide this great country of ours and lead our citizens

to embrace one another as neighbors and fellow countrymen,

created in your own image and likeness.

Give us a fresh opportunity for renewal and true solidarity

for the common good of our homeland. May we return to our true identity

as a people of faith & charity. Help us to remain One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

Amen.
