This term has been full but has also flown by so quickly. I would like once again to acknowledge the extraordinary students of St Joseph’s Woodburn who make our job so sat- isfying and rewarding. Every time I walk around the school, I continue to be delighted by the welcoming smiles and hel- lo’s that greet me each day at assembly, on duty or going into classrooms. I also want to congratulate you, our parents for the wonderful nurturing that is so evident in our students’ lives. School will resume for Term 3 on Monday, 18 th July. ANDREW CHINN CONCERT: TUESDAY, 19th JULY 2016

On Tuesday 19th July, Australian religious songwriter and singer, Andrew Chinn, will be visiting our school to share his songs with our children. An-drew’s songs, such as “These Hands”, “Rainbow” and “An African Blessing” are used in classrooms and liturgies around Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.

Parents and parishioners are warmly invited to be a part of the celebration of faith and fun. There is no charge for adults. The concert will take place in the school library at 2pm.

Our singer/songwriter Bella Stanley-Jones will perform her award winning song, “BE KIND” during the performance. Andrew was a teacher for 20 years in Catholic schools in Sydney, taught all grades from kindergarten to Year 6. His best-known songs are These Hands, Together As One, Rain-bow, In the Beginning, Shine Among Them, An African Blessing and Gotta Sing Gotta Pray.

He has 5 DVDs, called “Hearts and Hands”, “Come Dance With Me”, “Together As One”, “In Your Foot-steps” and “Gotta Sing! Gotta Pray!”

He has also written 5 picture books, “In the Beginning”, “I Am The River”, “Rainbow” and “Under Your Star” and one based on the life of St Mary MacKillop.

He has his own website: www.butterflymusic.com.au, where you can listen to some songs, watch some video clips, and find out a bit more about his music. Andrew’s music is also available on iTunes.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MATTERS from Megan Boyd

The Sunday Connection: God speaks to us in many ways, including through the Sunday Scripture readings. Sunday 3

rd July - (14th Sunday in Ordinary Time)

In the readings Jesus appoints 72 people to go ahead of him to eve-ry town he plans to visit, proclaiming that the Kingdom of God is at hand. A key theme of the Sunday Gospel is discipleship—its chal-lenges, its difficulties, and its rewards. Sharing in the mission of Je-sus is difficult, but everyone is called to do it. To do this successfully we need to make good use of our head, heart and hands!

SACRAMENT of CONFIRMATION (For Year 2 students and other Baptised students who have not received the Sacrament) The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated by Bishop Jarrett on Saturday, 27th August at the All Saints’ Catholic Church Woodburn, and Sunday, 28th August at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Coraki. There will be Family Group Meetings for four weeks prior to the celebration.

FAMILY-CENTRED SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION PROGRAM

Parents of our Year 2 students preparing for the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to a very important meeting on Tuesday, 19th July at 6.30pm. At least one parent of each child must be at this meeting in order for their child to be enrolled into the program. At the meeting parents will be asked to enrol their child into a Family Group that will meet weekly for 4 weeks before the celebration of the Sacrament as preparation for reception of Confirmation.
