God of passion, You call us to be people of commitment; making a difference in our world through our work in this school. Safety Drills Over the coming weeks the school will be involved in both a lock-down and evacuation drill. We usually wait for parents to leave the premises but be aware it could happen at any time. Upcoming Events Labour Day (Public Holiday) is Monday 4 March. The Friday prior (1 March) is a Pupil Free Day, staff will be in-serviced on using the explicit instruction model. Busy Bee The school is intending holding a busy bee on Saturday 30 March between 8am and 12 noon. This will be followed by a sausage sizzle and drinks. Make sure to put the event into your calendar now! Prior notice from parents with skills e.g. brick paving, painting, electrician, plumber etc. would help the school with planning work for the morning. There will be plenty of other gardening jobs as well. Please telephone 9303 7101 or email [email protected] if you can help. God Bless! Chris Lamb Principal

CENTRED ON JESUS CHRIST

ST JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMITMENT MASS On Sunday, February 24th, there will be a special commissioning and commitment ceremony during the 9.30am Mass in the school undercover sacred space area, concluding with morning tea at 10.30am. All students preparing to receive the Sacraments this year are expected to attend the Commitment Mass with their parents - It is an essential part of the enrolment to be able to receive the Sacraments this year. Students unable to attend will not be able to complete the Sacrament this year. If you are unsure if your child should be receiving a Sacrament this year, the following guide* may assist you: *Please note that children can still receive the Sacraments in a different year level (eg: A Year 5 student may celebrate their First Eucharist, or a Year 6 may be preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation). If your child is not baptised and you would like this to happen please contact Fr Vinh, the Parish Priest, at the Presbytery on 6400 0276.

On Sunday, students will be asked to bring forward their commitment form below. (A copy of this has been distributed to classes and there will be some spare copies available as you enter on Sunday as well).

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is usually celebrated by Baptised Catholics in Year 3 The Sacrament of Eucharist (Holy Communion) is usually celebrated by Baptised Catholics in Year 4 The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually celebrated by children in Year 6 who have already received the Eucharist.

Reminder to Choir & Band students:

All band and choir students will be playing at this 9.30am Mass on Feb 24. Please arrive before 9.15am Thank you

The Season of Lent So, what is this season of ‘Lent’ all about? The posters below that are in our school office might help explain a little about this special season in our church calendar:

ANSWER THE QUESTION AND WIN!!

Last newsletter’s answer was Ash Wednesday. Well done to the 2 students who were able to give their response before the week was over! THIS WEEK’S QUESTION IS A REALLY TOUGH ONE THAT MIGHT EVEN CHALLENGE OUR YEAR 6 STUDENTS: If Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (March 6) and finishes on Holy Saturday (April 20), which is a span of 45 days, why do we say there are 40 days in Lent? Enter your answer below and return to Mr Maxwell as soon as you can to be in the running for the ‘Little Prize’:

May God bless you,
