TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
We are happy to offer you a beautiful liturgical hymn for your prayer this week in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
Mary on Monday, August 15, 2016. It is a beautiful prayer to Mary and her divine Son, Jesus, taken from the Divine Office Liturgy of
the Hours:
MARY’S ASSUMPTION INTO HEAVEN
Mary, the dawn, Christ the Perfect Day:
Mary the gate, Christ the Heavenly Way!
Mary the root, Christ the Mystic Vine;
Mary the grape, Christ the Sacred Wine!
Mary the wheat, Christ the Living Bread,
Mary the stem, Christ the Rose blood-red
Mary the font, Christ the Cleansing Flood,
Mary the cup, Christ the Saving Blood!
Mary the temple, Christ the temple’s Lord;
Mary the shrine, Christ the God adored!
Mary the beacon, Christ the Haven’s Rest;
Mary the mirror, Christ the Vision Blest!
Mary the mother, Christ the mother’s Son
By all things blest while endless ages run. Amen
God Bless,
Fr. Herb
Monday, August 15th, 2016, The Feast of the Assumption, is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Mass will be celebrated in the Church
on Monday, August 15th at 6:45 AM, 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please come to honor Mary and her Divine Son.
WORDS OF TITHING FROM THE PEWS:
From the pastor: Jesus even gives us His Mother, Mary, to
be our Mother. And Mary loves each one of us with a
mother’s love. God’s giving to us knows no bounds. Our gifts
to Him are our humble and generous response.
Words on tithing from the Pews: With Tithing, we are
teaching our children that they, too, have an obligation to give
back to God and to be thankful with their money for
everything given to them.
Thank you for your sacrifice of Tithing!

WE HAVE A PARISH SEMINARIAN
PRAY FOR VOCATIONS TO
OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN!
Our parish is being blessed this year with a young man, our
parishioner, Elmer Nieto, who has been accepted by the Diocese as a
seminarian to begin pursuing a call to become a priest for the Diocese
of Paterson. Elmer will begin his academic studies and spiritual
formation this September at Saint Andrew’s College Seminary a part
of Seton Hall University in South Orange. Over the next several years
he will be discerning and the diocese will also be evaluating whether
God has called him to become a priest for our Diocese. As Elmer’s
parish family, we promise to pray for him and with him so that God’s
plan will become clearer and clearer during his seminary years.
Elmer came to our community from his home country of Mexico
when he was a teenager. He was diligent in learning English while
attending Parsippany Hills High School. He has worked hard to earn
his own living ever since he came to New Jersey. In recent year, he
has been employed in his brother’s family business. For the past 8
years, he has been the Leader of Music at our regular Saturday
evening 7:00 PM Spanish language liturgy. Elmer leads a music
group which has played at many Catholic Church events and at
cultural and family celebrations. We are proud of Elmer Nieto and
pray that one day he will be, God willing, a priest of the Diocese of
Paterson.
Another young man from Mexico, Eduardo Maceda, who worshiped
here in our parish for a while recently returned to Mexico where he
has begun studying with the Conventual Franciscan Friars to discern
whether God is calling him to be a priest. Please keep Eduardo
Maceda in your prayers, too.
Jesus calls us to pray that the Master of the Harvest - His Father and
Our Father in Heaven – will send laborers into the harvest. We need
priests, deacons, religious and lay ministers for the work of the
Church. “Ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his
harvest.” Luke 10:2. Because Jesus is calling on us to pray
specifically to His Father, the Harvest Master, I personally offer one
Our Father every day asking Our Father in heaven to call young
people living in our Diocese to become laborers for His harvest right
here in the Paterson Diocese. Please resolve to pray one Our Father
every day for vocations in our Diocese and in a special way
please include Elmer Nieto and Eduardo Maceda in your daily
vocation prayer.
