"This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about." So begins Matthew's narration of of Mary and Joseph's first adventure as husband and wife. The early Christians who were his audience must have been eager to hear the story of Jesus' early years, and wondered if what they had heard about Mary was true. It must have been Mary who handed this story down to the apostles, which subsequently found itself in the scriptural canon. One would imagine that this was a rather private matter between Mary and Joseph, but so important that it needed to be shared later. It's a tender and lovely story of a young couple in love and faced with a dilemma. JOSEPH WAS A RIGHTEOUS MAN Today's Gospel is one of only a few stories that mention Joseph. It is clear from these Gospel accounts that Joseph was a man of good character and also a loving man, not willing to harm Mary, even though it appeared that she had betrayed him in the most hurtful way. He could have denounced her publicly and she would have been stoned to death. But he did not want that to happen to her. Did he and Mary have a conversation about the Annunciation events, and could that conversation have made him more open to the dream in which the angel appeared to him?

Letter From Pastor
We invite you to the Ceremony of Carols this Sunday evening, December 18th at 7:00. This special evening will be presented by the children and adults of our parish and our choir. The depiction of the Christmas story, Scripture Readings will be proclaimed and our Choir and those present will sing hymns and carols. At the end of the Ceremony of Carols, those who have purchased gifts will be asked to bring your wrapped gift and present it to the Christ Child. This is a very beautiful ceremony. I hope you will take the time to come and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Your generosity and love in the past have been outstanding and I am sure the children for whom you purchase gifts will be most grateful.
Fr. Konstanty and I wish all of you a most blessed Christmas. We realize that Christmas is next Sunday but many of you may spend the day with family and friends in other areas. We do hope though that you do take the time to attend Mass on the day we celebrate the birthday of our savior. May the Christ Child bless you and your families and may He bestow upon all of you the gifts of peace and joy. We thank you for all the Christmas cards, gifts and greetings that you have sent us. To serve you in this beautiful parish is a privilege and a joy. Many of you – we are sure – will celebrate the tradition of the Vigil Dinner. This special dinner gives many families the opportunity to enjoy a special meal together, sing hymns and later process to Church to celebrate the Lord’s Birthday at Mass. It gives us the perfect opportunity to thank God for His many gifts and to show appreciation to those in our families, our friends, and our neighbors. Let us not forget “Jesus” on His Birthday and give Him the gift of yourself.
The Christmas Schedule was mailed to all parishioners. For your convenience we list it below.
CONFESSIONS: CHRISTMAS EVE: 3:00 - 4:30 P.M.
MASSES: Saturday, December 24th: 5:00 P.M. & 9:00 P.M. (English) & 12:00 Midnight (Polish)

Sunday, December 25th: 8:00 A.M. (English), 10:00 A.M. (English), 11:30 A.M. (Polish)
THERE WILL BE NO EVENING MASS ON CHRISTMAS DAY
We will begin to decorate our Church for Christmas on Monday evening, December 19th, at 7:00. We could use some help hanging the garland and wreaths, and preparing the manger scene. Please come and help make our Church beautiful for the Christmas season.
The Mass Intention Book for 2017 is now open for Masses from January 1st to June 30th.
Oplatek (Polish Christmas Wafers) is available in the Rectory during office hours and also in the sacristy after Mass on Sunday.

CONTINUED FROM COVER PAGE IN A DREAM Do we believe that our dreams hold meaning for our lives? Many psychologists say so, and yet we often dismiss what we have dreamed because our dreams may seem so far-fetched and implausible. If we paid attention to our dreams, and God revealed something important to us, would we believe it? If something scary or evil occurred in a dream, would we just shake it off, or would we say a prayer to God to protect us from evil and know that God would never will bad things for us? The Jews then, as today, looked for the Messiah to come. When the angel told Joseph that this child was conceived through the Holy Spirit, he readily believed that Mary would bear a son who would save people from their sins. They named him Jesus, which in Hebrew is "Yeshua." It means "God saves." Joseph was willing to believe that the prophecy from Isaiah, "the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, / and they shall name him Emmanuel, / which means 'God is with us' " would be fulfilled in his own life (Matthew 1:23). When he awoke, he did not shake off the dream, but acted on it in a way that would change his life, and would change the world. In this season of waiting for the Messiah, we can dream of that time of the Reign of God to come, and we can believe that it will be fulfilled.
