Farewell Message from Fr. Theo D’Cunha, SAC
Dear Parishioners,
There is an old saying: “We meet to part
and we part to meet.” This will be my
last weekend as your Pastor at St. Igna-
tius Parish. Man proposes but God dis-
poses, and that is what happened with
me.
I came to the Cayman Islands to take re-
sponsibility as Pastor of St. Ignatius Par-
ish, but I feel that God has different plans
for me. With prayerful reflections I de-
cided to return back to India after serving
the people of the USA for 16 long years.
It is at the end of this phase of my journey
that I could serve you, my beloved parishioners, for a very short time, just one year, including three months of
lockdown due to COVID-19.
In this short time I experienced your great love, friendship and appreciation for all that I could do.
I take this opportunity to thank Fr. Naveen D’Souza, our Associate Pastor, for his great support, love, and
companionship.
I thank all the Pastoral staff: Deacon Joe Biggs, May Ursua, O’Neil Miller, Jeremy Rice, Jerry Gracias, and
Sambasivam Dhanasekar for all their help and encouragement.
I also thank the Parish Council and various committees of St. Ignatius Parish, who always stood by me. I will
always treasure your great love and friendship.
I would like to thank the staff of St. Ignatius Catholic School, the parents, and of course, the students. It was
most encouraging to celebrate Mass for the little ones. I always looked forward to celebrating the School
Masses on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
One of my favourite memories of St. Ignatius will always be the way that we celebrated the Nativity of the
Blessed Virgin Mary in September with the beautiful procession. I pray that you will continue to celebrate the
Blessed Mother’s birthday in this way in the future.
How can I forget my friends at Christ the Redeemer, West Bay? Celebrating Mass with you all was something
special. Keep up the good work! Flying to Cayman Brac to celebrate Mass at Stella Maris was another adven-
ture. Though a small community, you are lovely people and I will miss you all.
Finally, I thank each and every one of you from the depths of my heart. I thank you for all that you have been
to me. In each of you I found the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. May God be your reward for all that you
have done for me.
As we continue to walk the journey of our faith, may we never fail to love one another. May almighty God,
who is the sower of all happiness and hope, continue to guide you. May our Blessed Mother Mary protect
you. Until we meet again, be assured of my prayers for you and please remember to pray for me.
Although my time as Pastor has officially come to an end, I will be here in Cayman and I will continue to
serve the Parish until I am able to travel when the international flights resume.
Love you all. Adios!
Fr. Theo, SAC

June 28th, 2020 - Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Weekend’s Readings
TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16a
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19
Second Reading: Romans 6:3-4, 8-11
Gospel: Matthew 10:37-42
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation; announce the praises of
him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” - 1 Peter 2:9
13TH SUNDAY… A HEART THAT HAS BEEN TOUCHED BY AND OPEN TO MERCY When we were baptized, we were baptized into Christ’s death. Take a moment to ponder these profound words. We
were baptized into death. In every sense of the word, we are asked to die. This is not just about our final death but
about daily deaths due to inconvenience, discomfort, pain, loss, or others’ needs. This is an incredible epiphany given
the way we very often approach our lives. We do everything to avoid death, let alone encounter it! Many avoid pain,
discomfort, inconvenience, uneasiness, change, interference, and suffering of any kind. We put a lot of energy into
finding the easiest and least inconvenient way through many things. Even holding the door open for a stranger or say-
ing hello to someone in the store can be major undertakings.
We are called to die. One of the biggest wake-up calls we can have is realizing that life is not about us! There are mil-
lions of other people sharing life on this planet with whom I have a relationship. Does my life celebrate those relation-
ships? The most distracting question we can ask is, “What do I want to do?” The more focused, faith-filled question
is, “What do I need to do?” What I need to do may not be what I want to do. However, asking this question more fre-
quently will teach us how to more purposefully and intentionally live so we can be a life giving vessel for others.
When we learn to live more sacrificially, to put the needs of others before our own, and to not always seek our own
self-interest, we become aware of what baptism into Christ’s death is really all about. These are the roots of virtue and
the seedbed for justice, tolerance, solidarity, love, and peace.
Learning how to accept all the “small deaths” and sacrifices life calls us to teaches us how to approach our final death.
All deaths ask us to empty ourselves into something or someone else. Whether we empty ourselves into the heart and
soul of another human being or empty ourselves into God at the moment of our final death, new life is always re-
ceived and nurtured. A heart that exclusively seeks its own interest is a heart that is closed to love. A heart that pours
itself out to others and is content with being emptied is a heart that has been touched by and open to mercy. It is a
heart that overflows with joy.

POPE FRANCIS ADDS THREE NEW
INVOCATIONS TO THE LITANY OF
THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY “Mater misericordiae”, the Latin for “Mother of mercy”; "Mater spei", or “Mother of hope”;
and “Solacium migrantium", or “Solace of migrants” are the new invocations to the Blessed
Virgin Mary in the Litany of Loreto, which is often recited at the end of the Rosary.
The addition was timed for the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on June 20th.
In a letter to the presidents of bishops’ conferences worldwide, Cardinal Robert Sarah,
the Prefect of the Congregation, and its Secretary, Archbishop Arthur Roche, note that through the
course of centuries, Christians have been using innumerable invocations and titles to
call upon the Virgin Mary, “as the privileged and sure way to an encounter with Christ”.
The Litany of Loreto takes its name from the Marian shrine of Loreto in Italy, where it is believed to have been used
as far back as 1531. It was officially approved in 1587 by Pope Sixtus V, who suppressed all other Marian litanies
used publicly. The Litany of Loreto is the only approved Marian litany. However, many more Marian litanies were
and are in use, but are designated for private devotion, as is evident, for example, in the so-called Officia Mariana.
