Deacon’s Corner

“There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine respectable people who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:7

When we think of the word repentance we think of being sorry enough to want to quit whatever we have been doing wrong. But repentance is more than this. It’s not only being sorry enough to want to quit whatever we have been doing wrong, but also being sorry enough to wish to correct all the wrong that we have already done. We would all like life to be like a notebook so we could tear out the parts where we’ve made all the mistakes in our lives and we could just tear them out and throw them away. Thanks to Jesus, life is exactly like that. It’s like a notebook and we can tear out the parts where we’ve made mistakes and throw them away. In His love Jesus gave us the sacrament of Reconciliation. Through this sacrament, we can tear out the parts of our life where we made all our mistakes and throw them away and never commit them again. This is the good news of today’s gospel. This is the good news that we celebrate. The gift that God values the most is the tears of a repentant sinner. Our sorrow for our wrong doing brings joy to our God God bless, Deacon John

“The goal of Catholic liturgy is to communicate a transcendent awareness of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. Faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist demands great beauty, dignity, and reverence.”

All of us have the responsibility to bring beauty, reverence and dignity to our celebration of Mass. The Church directs us to do this in very simple and concrete ways: - to receive the Eucharist one must be in a state of grace, serious sin must be confessed before receiving Holy Communion. If married be married in a Valid marriage in the eyes of the Church. -fast from food at least one (1) hour before receiving Holy Communion, exceptions taking medication or other health issues. -bodily demeanor, gestures dress ought to convey respect as Christ becomes our guest. -a simple bow before receiving Holy Communion and responding Amen. -quite reflection when returning to the pew acknowledging Christ’s presence, words of praise and thanksgiving and petitioning the Lord to answer our many needs. Leaving Church after receiving is not appropriate. -to remember we are to become what we receive. How do we reflect the spirit of the Eucharist in our relationships, choices and decisions. -Be mindful of Christ's continuing presence in the tabernacle. If able genuflect entering and leaving Church or a simple bow is appropriate for those who cannot genuflect.

Reverence, dignity, beauty, simple ways we all can proclaim our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Join us for our 2019 Advent Series on the Real Presence of the Eucharist

DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two reali-ties. On one hand the durable bond of mar-riage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated,

perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these cir-cumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750
