14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set
me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking
say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you…’” EZ 2:2-3
God asks each of us to do some special work for Him. He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls? Do we get up on our feet and use our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.

of the team members in the back of church or bring
them to the parish office.
The 4th Sunday of the Month has be designated as
Youth & Young Adult Sunday at St. Gabriel Church.
The idea for Youth & Young Adult Sunday is mani-
fested in the hope that the next generation of Catholics
develop a strong relationship with our Lord. Any
youth or young adult interested in participating in the
following ministries: Lectors, Ushers, Youth & Young
Adult Choir, & Eucharistic Ministers (Young Adults
Only), please see Mrs. Bernadette August-Woods or
Mrs. Doris Banks. Please Note: All PSR Students are
required to attend Mass on the 4th Sunday whether
class is in session or not.
Black and Indian Mission Collection Announcement
On July 16-17, 2018, the Archdiocese of New Orleans
will take up the annual Black and Indian Mission Col-
lection, which has a direct impact in our own archdio-
cese as we benefit locally from grants funded by the
collection. Your generosity to this collection reflects
the depths of your faith and your willingness to help
our brothers and sisters in need; it is an opportunity to
evangelize and further the missionary cause of bringing
the Gospel to our African American and Native Ameri-
can family.
A church building is a special
place calling for special behav-
ior. While the church is our home
and we should feel comfortable
there – indeed, the church (small
“c”) is a gathering place for the
Church, the people of God
(capital “C”) – that doesn’t mean
that anything goes. Your actions
in church show respect for God
and for the community that gath-
ers there. If you are stopping by the church to pray,
even just for a moment, your actions should respect the
place and its purpose.
Spit out your gum, turn off your cell phone, check that you’re appropriately dressed and make the most of the precious opportunity to step away from the ordinary and into a sacred space and time. If you are in the church for Mass and you wish to go to communion, remember that Catholics are required to fast for one hour before re-ceiving the Eucharist. This ensures that we are “hungry” (at least symbolically) for the Eucharist and that we show respect for the Body of Christ. The Eucha-rist is real food, but it is not ordinary food, and thus we don’t mix it in with bites of our ordinary food and drink. Snacking or chewing gum distracts us from the sacred fast that prepares us to receive the Body of Christ. So there’s one more reason to lose the gum.
Will be posted next week due to Staff Vacations. We
apologize for the inconvenience.
