a message from our parochial Administrator

We are blessed to announce that Sister Jennifer Maria

O’Neill, IHM will profess her first vows on August 8, 2020.

Sister Jennifer Maria is from Springfield, PA, where she

attended St. Francis of Assisi School and Cardinal O’Hara

High School. She studied Music Therapy at Immaculata

University, earning her BMUS in 2014. It was there that she

met and started discerning with the Sisters, Servants of the

Immaculate Heart of Mary. Before entering religious life,

Sister Jennifer worked as a Recreational Director and

Musician at an assisted living dementia care unit. She

entered the Postulate on September 8, 2017, and was

received into the congregation and began her novitiate on

August 10, 2018. This past year, she was blessed to have

been a part of the local community of IHM Sisters at St.

David's Parish while she did her student teaching in the 5th

grade at Queen of Angels School! She is THRILLED to be

making her first vows, and is grateful for all of your prayers

and support! Due to COVID regulations, her public

profession of vows will be limited to immediate family and

those sisters integral to her formation process. She hopes to

celebrate with the parish, her family, and her friends when

we're all back to normal! This August, after professing her

vows, Sister Jennifer will be sent to her first mission, St.

Joseph Convent in Downingtown, PA, where she will teach

fourth grade at St. Joseph School. Well-wishes and

congratulations can be sent to St. Joseph Convent 336

Manor Avenue Downingtown, PA 19335

BREAKING OPEN THE WORD 19

th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ August 9th, 2020

1 Kings 19: 9a, 11-13a

Today’s readings speak of humanity’s direct encounters with

God. The First Reading describes Elijah’s encounter with

God on Mount Horeb. Elijah knew God’s presence in the

“Tiny whispering sound.” Recall the times God spoke to you

in a tiny whisper. What were His messages to you?

Romans 9: 1-5

In the Second reading, Paul pours out his concern about the

Jews rejecting Christ, who, Paul believes, has been given to

them by God because they are the chosen people. They got it

all but they don’t get it! We who sit in the pews, equipped

with our salvation, are hereby warned. How do you find this

to be a warning for you?

Matthew 14: 22-33

Consider the story of Peter walking on the water in today’s

Gospel. What does this tell you about Peter? Have you or

would you ever do something comparable?

The Corner

Brought to you by your Evangelization Team “Curiosity about God and His dreams for us and the world

can be incredibly invigorating. It transforms the way we see

ourselves, other people, creation, society, and indeed God.”

~ Matthew Kelly “I Heard God Laugh”

MEDITATION FOR THE DAY "Avoid worrying, then, about anything else for your

children except whatever may contribute to bringing them

up virtuously. For the rest, having entrusted them to God,

try to see what His will for them is, to help them along

the path in life He has chosen for them. Never be afraid of

relying too much on Him, but rather seek always to

increase your trust more and more, for this is the most

pleasing homage you can pay Him and it will be the

measure of the graces you will receive. Little or much

will be given you according as you have expected little or

much." —St. Claude De La Columbiere 3-175
