Have a blessed new year
JANUARY 1, 2020 9:00A.M. TRILINGUAL
Like the Churches of the East, Rome wished to honor the Virgin Mother of God during the days after Christmas. As a result the Natale S. Mariae (Anniversary of Mary) made its appearance on January 1 in the seventh century; it has accurate-ly been called “the first Marian feast of the Ro-man liturgy.”—the Church at Prayer. On New Year’s Day, the octave day of Christ-mas, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Mother of God. The divine and virginal motherhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a sin-gular salvific event: for Our Lady it was the fore-taste and cause of her extraordinary glory; for us it is a source of grace and salvation because “through her we have received the Author of Life” (127)
As the dawn breaks on a new year, let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends.
Let us release our grudges, our anger and our pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in the most loving ways the God-conscious way. Let us serve all who are in need, regardless of race, color or creed.
Let us keep God of our own understanding in our hearts and to chant God’s name each day. Let us lead the world from darkness to light, from false-hood to truth and from wrong to right.
Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none.
May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God’s blessing shower upon your and be-stow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year.

— the Church at Prayer.
