Life QuotesOctober 2 “The desired out-come of God’s adoption plan for us is heaven. That is the ulti-mate concern for the Christian as well. When a child is con-ceived, whatever the circum-stances, a Christian’s first con-cern is for that child’s salvation. Subsequent decisions and plans need always to bear this in mind … an adoption plan gives op-portunity to place a child in an environment that will nurture and uphold that child’s eternal welfare.” Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.orgOctober 9 “God gives us a model for affecting the lives of

others. It follows the order of creation and is gender-specific. You can find that model in Titus 2:1-8. A young pastor named Titus and his congrega-tion used this model to affect the lives of others—one man, one woman, one child, one fam-ily, one neighbor, one com-munity at a time. They ment-ored generations of hope.” Linda D. Bartlett, www.titus2-4life.org – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.orgOctober 16 “We no longer wait for the Messiah like Ruth, and there will never again be a con-ception like Mary’s. But, we live in the time where we have proof that there is a plan for each life at the moment of con-ception … It’s God’s plan of salvation for all of His children … carried out for all of us by Christ on the cross. Let’s wit-ness to that plan by treasuring God’s gift of conception.” Karen Frohwein, president of LFL of Iowa – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.orgOctober 23 “The Church is called to stand up for the ALL of God’s children, from the un-born to the underprivileged … The sanctity of human life is in-trinsically possessed for it is God’s creation.” Rev. Kevin Kritzer, Bethany Lutheran Church, Long Beach, California – A “Life Quote” from Luther-ans For Life – www.lutherans-forlife.orgOctober 30 “Luther … stated his position forcefully: ‘For those who have no regard for pregnant women and who do not spare the tender fruit are murderers and infanticides.’ And John Calvin was just as clear … No wonder Orthodox

scholar Alexander Webster wrote that abortion ‘is one of only several moral issues on which not one dissenting opin-ion has ever been expressed by the Church Fathers.’” Col. John Eidsmoe, Lutherans For Life board of directors – A “Life Quote” from Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.org

Stewardship MinuteOCTOBER 2011

In the October issue of Stewardship there is a story about two young men discussing their personal goals in life. One fellow’s attitude was to get everything he could

get for himself: money, property, automobiles, stocks, bonds and so forth. One might say he focused on reaping and gathering. He wanted to store up as many treasures on earth as possible. All he wanted was everything!

The other young man said that he believed God had given him a good life. He had a decent body, a fair mind, and some talent. Therefore, he said that since he was a Christian he thought that he should use whatever gifts he had to glorify God and to try to make this world a better place. He wanted to store up treasures in heaven. They would be everlasting and no one could remove them from him.

That young fellow was trying to have a Christian attitude toward life. He realized that making a life is far more important than making a living. In fact, those who use their life to glorify God on earth find that somehow they have enough, often more than enough, to satisfy their worldly needs. This idea is summed up in the 23rd Psalm:

The Lord is my shep-herd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You pre-pare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Prayer: Dear Lord, make our minds and hearts restless until we strive first for the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen
