Gfest 2019 Update. This year's Gfest was a roaring success & the committee are thrilled to confirm that we have managed to raise a massive £10,000 to split equally between MindSpace Stamford, LRSN & YoungMinds. All 3 charities do great work for mental health in different sections of society. In addition to this, we also raised £3k for Uffington Cricket Club with bar sales and just under £400 for Uffington CoE primary school from the cake stall. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, raffle prize donators, suppliers, bands & festival goers. We genuinely couldn’t raise the money we do without you all giving your time, resources & money so selflessly. The committee would also like to thank all Uffington residents for their cooperation & patience with Gfest. We realise that you do not all come along to join the party & that the noise, traffic & parking can be an inconvenience on that one weekend. But we hope that you all agree that Gfest really does benefit not just some important charities but the village itself.

UFFINGTON CAROL SERVICE

Each year, a group of local people form a choir in order to lead the worship at the Christmas carol service in Uffington Parish Church. Choir rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings at Copthill School, Barnack Road, Uffington, Stamford, Lincs (by kind permission of the Teesdale family). New members are always very welcome, but we are particularly keen to recruit some more basses this year. People do not have to be able to read music as all the carols and other pieces are taught painstakingly by our choirmaster, Tim Hurst-Brown. Rehearsals begin on Wednesday 27 November at 7.30pm, and the carol service will be in Uffington Parish Church on Sunday December 22 at 6.00pm. Tim Hurst-Brown would be delighted to welcome any new choristers: further details may be obtained from him on 01733 361804 or 07734 510815, or via e-mail: [email protected]

BRACEBOROUGH & WILSTHORPE PARISH COUNCIL

Members of the Parish Council met at St Faiths Church in September. It was suggested that residents from the parish be encouraged to do an Autumn Clean around the villages to help reduce the risk of flooding by the river bridge at Braceborough, clear out any road gulley’s as well as clearing up outside their own properties. There had been a small response for obtaining bird nesting boxes within the parish, if you are still interested please contact the clerk as soon as possible. It was agreed that the Clerk would contact SKDC to obtain information on how the street lights owned by the District Council can be aligned with those belonging to the County Council. Cllr Dobson had reported the damaged street light no 2, Braceborough to SKDC on behalf of the parish. Concern was raised about a notice by British Telecom to remove the Kiosk at Wilsthorpe. The Clerk was asked to contact SKDC who would respond on the Councils behalf to keep the building with the telephonic equipment in case of emergencies. BT would be unable to remove the Kiosk at Braceborough without de-listing the building first. The next meeting will be held at Braceborough & Wilsthorpe Village Hall on 2

nd December

at 7.30pm. This will be when Councillors will set the 2020/21 precept, consideration will be given to any organisation within the parish who requires funding such as the Village Hall and Churchyard maintenance. Please forward requests to the Clerk by 15

th

November.

From your Rector Fr Aran Beesley Remembering Our Loved Ones The 2

nd November is known to many of us as ‘All Souls’ Day: the Church of England

Prayer Book calls it ‘Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed’. On Saturday 2

nd November at 11.00am at St Lawrence’s Church, Tallington, I will lead a

special service where we will remember, with thankfulness, those we have known and loved and are no longer with us. Within the Uffington Group of parishes and villages, I invite you all, to let me have the names of anyone who has died that you would particularly like to be remembered in church on this day. In each of the seven churches, a list will be available to write the name(s) of anyone you wish to be remembered. Alternatively, please email name to Carole at [email protected] During the service, we will read the names of those who have had funeral services in the Uffington Group during the last 12 months, along with the names written on the lists. Anyone who would like to light a candle in memory of someone who has died will be invited to do so. We all cope with bereavement in different ways and I realise that such a service may not meet everyone’s needs, if you think it would be meaningful to you, please come along perhaps with the support of friends and family. I extend a warm welcome to you ALL whatever your feeling, please remember you are not alone. Christians believe God meets us in our grief and sadness. I look forward to seeing you at the Tallington service where you will be most welcome. Yours sincerely, Fr Aran The list of names will be collected from all 7 churches after Sunday 27

th October. If you

send the names via email, please do so prior to this date so Carole can collate the names to be read.

Thank you. We live our lives through the changing seasons and events are essential to us, our families and the wider world. I have been with you for one year now. I have settled in, tried to listen and started to understand some of the things that are important to you, and have made a few changes to how we organise and do ‘Church’ in these seven parishes.

I am very thankful for the warm welcome you have offered and the many opportunities you’ve given we to join in. I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to take part in more activities. The most remarkable thing so far is being able to say yes to those who want to be baptised, married or have their funeral in Church. I need all of your help spreading the news that I am the Parish Priest for all of you; especially those who have felt excluded from Church in the past. I will continue to work hard to help explain how I can help, and offer support to those who need it. One disappointment is that only a few people have been able to share their worries, hopes and dreams for Church. One of the reasons for this may be that you don’t think I’ll listen or change. Or the role of The Rector is seen as intimidation or irrelevant. I hope and pray that in time, we will see our Churches change and grow. The alternative is for me to manage our seven churches as museums to the past. I need more help and ideas for what will help us change and grow. As volunteers gather around good ideas, they tend to happen, albeit too slowly at times. My first year has been marked by two roofs being stripped of their lead. Every cloud has a silver lining and the way that many have worked behind the scenes to replace the roof at Tallington (hopefully by Christmas), and agree plans to reroof Braceborough - both with lead alternatives. Uffington now has a lavatory, and plans are underway for similar facilities at West Deeping, Greatford and Barholm. All of this work along with many other activities, are laying the foundations for the future. Laying foundations means that many of you may not see that much has changed. Many services such as Harvest Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter essentially remain the same for now. With a few more helpers and some more resources, they will be the next things to change. I am looking forward to seeing what we do together in the next year. Thank you for supporting me last year. If you have any thoughts or ideas, then please share them with me [[email protected]]. Perhaps next year we will gather to bless our wickets, beacons, pets and those moving to new schools, further education and new jobs. May God bless you all, Fr Aran
