A great prayer by St. John Neumann reminds us: “God has created me for some definite

service. He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I

have my mission.” That means that you have a contribution to make to the work of Christ

in our world. And our first job in “On Mission for The Church Alive!” is to renew the

Church so that it inspires people to follow Jesus. Think about what your first step could be

to accomplish that mission. Then do it.

    FROM THE PASTOR

ALL SAINTS & ALL SOULS On Hallowe’en, from All Hallows’ Eve the vigil of All Saints’ Day, people wear costumes of scary creatures, trick-or-treating in mockery of how evil torments us, rehearsing the Lord’s victory. All Saints’ Day is an opportunity to celebrate the victory won by the Lord Jesus in his disciples, transforming them from people like us into people like—well, think of your favorites, such as the Blessed Virgin Mary, or Peter or John, or Antony or Augustine, Lucy or Cecilia, Gregory or Sebastian or Lawrence, Francis or Thomas, Theresa or Thérèse—the list goes on.

The next day, November 2, is All Souls’ Day, the year’s most solemn commemoration of the dead. After the usual Mass Monday morning at 8:00 a.m., we’ll drive to Mount Olivet Cemetery for the Litany of the Dead and the commemoration of the dead buried in our four cemeteries. The same evening, we’re adding an extra 7:00 p.m. Mass in commemoration of all the dead, especially parishioners and loved ones who have died in the past year.

Meanwhile, work continues on the improvement of the cemeteries. Crews from Mulkerrin Plumbing & Heating and Ferri Design recently re-erected the monument to Fr. Muszynski, formerly at St. Ignatius Church, now at St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Your support accomplishes these tasks. By patronizing the cemeteries, by contributing to our May and November cemeteries collections, by participating in cemetery fundraisers, and by remembering St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in your will, you are making these improvements possible.

Speaking of which—please sign up for Faith Direct, electronic giving program, and the gifts you designate will be automatically debited to your checking account or credit card every month. Visit www.faithdirect.net and use parish code PA591, or pick up an application form here at SEAS. Thank you!

We will gladly accept any items you would like to donate but we do have specific needs as we serve a large number

of people, many of whom are families. If you are able, please give generously as we have seen the numbers of

people seeking help grow significantly during these difficult economic times.

make a great Christmas present! Also – it would be a great gift for someone at a local college,

or a home warming gift. And …there’s always those birthdays!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COMPLIANCE WITH THE SAFE ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM

There have been some recent developments and changes that may be important to you as a current parish volunteer, or as a new parish volunteer:

    1) ALL volunteers who have not lived in PA for ten (10) consecutive years need to be fingerprinted by July 1, 2016, in order to remain compliant. This is due to a change in the PA State laws for volunteers, and is a requirement of the state, and, therefore, is also a necessity for parish volunteers. If you’ve had a gap in the past 10 years in your use of PA as your principal address, please contact me so that I can explain the details and help you get started on the fingerprinting process.

    2) Good news for incoming volunteers! Something we’ve been awaiting for years – the required ‘attendance’ at a Protecting God’s Children session, held regularly throughout the diocese at various sites, can now be done ONLINE! This will save our busy volunteer-wanna-be’s from having to travel and determine a time and place that suits their schedule. The PGC session can now be ‘attended’ in your own home on your personal computer. Call me for details! —Tess Keddie, Safe Environment Coordinator

NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK November 1 is the beginning of National Vocation Awareness Week. Currently there are 26 religious vocations from our merged parishes and St. Luke High School. Our Religious Education students send cards to these religious at Christmas. They also pray for the thirty-two seminarians of our diocese and send them notes several times during the year. Newly ordained Frs. Moehler and Rombold sent thank you notes. Matt Hawkins also sent a note this summer.

Fifty-two parishioners belong to the “31 Club Prayer Team” and say a rosary one day a month for an increase of priestly vocations in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Please also pray for an increase in vocations to consecrated life in this Year of Consecrated Life. Fourteen of our religious vocations are in consecrated life. —Carol Dlugos

Many thanks to Carol Dlugos for her ongoing dedication to increase vocation awareness. Not only does she handle all of the correspondence between the classrooms and the religious men and women of our parish, she also coordinates all of the notes and letters to our seminarians, and has each classroom “adopt” specific seminarians to include in the classroom prayers. This year, classes received a handmade bookmark with a photo of the seminarians as a visual reminder to keep these men in prayer. Carol has also dedicated an entire bulletin board on the second floor to vocation awareness. She gathers every response from the religious men and woman of our parish, as well as the seminarians, and has created a beautiful binder to display them. We are grateful for her commitment and hard work!

    MEMORIAL MASS

This Monday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m., will be our annual All Soul's Day Memorial Mass, a Mass of Remembrance for all of those who have gone before us. At this Mass we especially remember, by name, each of those buried from our parish in the past year. However, this Mass is a prayer of remembrance for ANYONE who has passed from death into life, and is meant for any of you who are grieving the loss of a loved one, whether during this past year or long ago, whether buried from our parish or not, whether a miscarriage or lost to you in another way, whether you are related by blood or not related at all to the one you miss. If you are grieving the loss of someone special, please consider coming to pray with us, and having your personal offering at Mass be that of your loved one, and receive the gift of consolation available to you here. Let us all pray together for those who have preceded us in death.

    LIFE IS CHANGED, NOT ENDED.....

    Everyone is Meant to Evangelize

Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed,

anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training

to go out and proclaim that love. —Evangelii Gaudium

[Think about the fact that the "Everyone" mentioned in the title above means YOU. And the

'anyone' mentioned in the quote probably means YOU, also ... if you can't say that you've 'truly

experienced God's love' (which is very available to ALL), who can you talk to about this all-

important facet of your life? Know that there are people on the parish staff, and in the parish,

who are very willing to help you with this! If you HAVE experienced God's love, who can you

'proclaim' it to, and how/when? Make a prayerful plan to do it!]
