2nd Sunday of Lent ~ ‘Listen! If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts! Listen!’ The Transfiguration of

Matthew sends an important message not only to the disciples who shared the moment with Jesus, but to all of

us – every Christian. Jesus took 3 disciples with him up the mountain – the place where sacred things occurred.

There they experienced God’s presence. Moses and Elijah appeared standing near Jesus. Immediately Peter felt

the need to ‘do’ something. He wasn’t content or peaceful enough to just ‘take in’ the experience. It wasn’t enough to simply

receive what God was clearly giving to them. He wasn’t aware that in that moment, God was calling him. So while Peter was

still speaking, a bright cloud covered them all. In fear the disciples fell face down on the ground. A voice, ‘the’ voice, of God

spoke: “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” Jesus then touched them saying: “Get up and do not be afraid.” When they did

get up, they saw ‘just Jesus’. What a scene! What a moment! The amazing and the ordinary stood side by side. Visions of

prophets, a glorified transfiguration, bright lights and voices – all streamed together to ‘call’ the disciples deeper into the

mystery of God revealed in Jesus. All of this scene was ‘calling’ the disciples to faith. Initially they feared – it really was too

much. But at the gentle touch of Jesus the disciples were once again ‘called’ to not fear but to have faith. This whole experience

was a very deep call to enter more deeply into the unfolding mystery of Jesus who asked for the mystery to be fulfilled before

they shared it with others. How does this story call us? Do we ever experience the voice of God clearly speaking to us in the

ordinary? Do we have ‘mountain top’ experiences in church, at work, in our family, with neighbors, with friends, with enemies?

Do we find ourselves fearing, then being touched, only to discover we are being ‘called’ to faith? Grace is indeed amazing. God

is always at work in all things. Faith leads us to see and understand in new ways. To be open, waiting, wanting, seeking is the

attitude we need to experience those little mountain top moments again and again. Not fear - - - but faith!

Segundo Domingo de Cuaresma ~ '¡Escuchen! ¡Si hoy escuchan su voz, no endurezcan su corazón! La Transfiguración de Mateo envía un mensaje importante no sólo a los discípulos que compartieron el momento con

Jesús, sino a todos nosotros, a todo Cristiano. Jesús tomó tres discípulos con Él a la montaña, el lugar donde acontecieron sagrados sucesos. Allí experimentaron la presencia de Dios. Moisés y Elías aparecieron de pie cerca de Jesús. Inmediatamente, Pedro sintió la necesidad de ‘hacer’ algo. No estaba content, ni tampoco suficientemente capaz como para ‘captar’ la experiencia. No era suficiente simplemente recibir lo que Dios les estaba dando. No estaba consciente de que en ese momento, Dios lo estaba llamando. Así que mientras Pedro seguía hablando, una nube luminosa los cubrió a todos. Con temor, los discípulos cayeron rostro en tierra. Una voz, ‘la voz’ de Dios, dijo: "Este es mi Hijo muy amado, escúchenlo” Entonces Jesús los tocó y les dijo: "Levántense y no teman”. Cuando se levantaron, ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús. ¡Qué escena! ¡Qué momento! Lo asombroso y lo ordinario estaban uno al lado del otro. Visiones de profetas, transfiguración gloriosa, luces brillantes y voces, todo fluía junto para ‘llamar’ profundamente a los discípulos al misterio de Dios revelado en Jesús. Toda esta escena estaba 'llamando' a los discípulos a la fe. Al principio temieron, era demasiado. Pero al toque suave de Jesús los discípulos fueron nuevamente ‘llamados’ a no temer sino a tener fe. Toda esta experiencia fue un llamado profundo para entrar más profundamente en el misterio de Jesús que pidió que se cumpliera el misterio antes de compartirlo con los demás. ¿Cómo nos llama esta historia? ¿Alguna vez experimentamos la voz de Dios claramente hablando con nosotros en lo ordinario? ¿Tenemos experiencia en la cima de la montaña, en la iglesia, en el trabajo, en nuestra familia, con los vecinos, con los amigos, con los enemigos? ¿Nos vemos temerosos para luego ser tocados, y descubrir que estamos siendo 'llamados' a la fe? La Gracia es realmente increíble. Dios siempre obra en todas las cosas. La fe nos lleva a ver y entender de nuevas maneras. Estar abiertos, esperar, querer, y buscar es la actitud que necesitamos para experimentar esos pequeños momentos de la cima de la montaña una y otra vez. No el miedo — sino la fe!

Did You Know — Parents should be aware of laundry pod dangers

Risks to children’s safety come in many shapes and

sizes. As parents and caring adults, inappropriate adult

conduct is not the only risk to watch for; we must also

create safe environments to protect children from other risks. One

possible threat comes from the small soft plastic pods that hold

laundry detergent. The pods are brightly colored, and often attract

young children who may mistake them for candy or other foods

and according to studies, children who ingest these pods or been

exposed to them could become ill and need to be hospitalized. For
