From The Diocese of Phoenix: Bishops say Advent during pandemic can be a time to draw closer to Jesus. Advent is a time to “experience the loving presence of God in a fresh and profound way, “ Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of Phoenix said on “The Bishop’s Hour” radio program that aired Nov. 21 on Relevant Radio. The four-week period leading to Christmas Day can be a time during which God prepares “our heart to receive the beloved Son again,”Bishop Olmsted said. “He may do so in little ways that we may hardly notice at the time.”

Holiday Gift Card drive for kids in Foster Care!!

Due to COVID-19, we are unable to have our Annual Christmas parties for Foster families.

We still want to make the Holidays BRIGHT for Foster kiddos so we

are asking for support from our generous community partners like Y-O-❤! We are collecting Gift Cards; for any $ amount, to ANY store or fast food location. (i.e. Target, Amazon, Wal-Mart, McDonald’s, etc.) Gift cards can be mailed to: Catholic Charities - Foster Care 5151 N. 19th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85015 Or if you prefer to collect AT your location, we can arrange to pick-up directly from you. Thank you for your consideration & compassion! Call Sally Gramke at 602-230-4910 if you have an

***Christmas Angel Tree Gift Drive*** It is that time of the year when the SVDP Christmas Angel Tree will

be up. On this weekend, December 12/13, there will (again) be

tables outside the main entrance of St. Bernard’s Church with

index cards for each Christmas Angel’s name, age, gender, and

gift requests of each under priviledged child. This year the children

are from our own Parish; the inner city Phoenix Parishes of St. Mark,

St Martin de Porres, and St. Catherine of Siena. Please take an

Angel index card and try to match the description of the child and the

gift(s) as best as you can.

All gifts should be returned wrapped and with the Christmas

Angel Index Card attached and the number visibly displayed.

We will collect the gifts at each Mass the weekend of December

19 and 20, 2020. Please drop off the gifts at designated drop off

stations in the parking lot or hand them over to Vincentian

volunteers outside the church. Do NOT bring gifts into the

Church. If you are unable to personally stop by to get a Christmas

Angel, you can still get one by calling the

Vincentian Christmas Angel Coordinator at 480.640.2385. Please

specify whether you want a boy or girl, any specific age(s), or

specific gift so we can best match your request.

Thank you on behalf of all the children you are

helping during this season of sharing.

If you’re interested, contact me at St.BernardMusic@ gmail.com or call me at 480-661-9843 ext. 311. Kent Campbell, Director of Liturgy/Music (480) 661-9843 ext.311

We are officially on Winter Break! Elementary Faith Formation “in person” classes went very well this First Semester. Thank you to the parents, catechists and children for being so vigilant with mask wearing and social distancing.

We are halfway through sacrament preparation for those wishing to receive their sacraments in the spring of 2021. You can still register for in person classes or home school through the Parish Office for Kindergarten, First Grade and 4th/5th during our winter break. Some of the live classes on Monday are closed, but I will open more classes as needed in the second semester, so please let me know your scheduling needs. I think you will be pleased with the safety precautions we are taking as we continue to share faith with your children.

My hope is to add a few more classes on Tuesday in the Second Semester that begins on January 11th. Please let me know if your children would attend Tuesday Classes if offered.

Please check the website and bulletin for updated information during our time off. We are not normally a home school parish, especially for sacraments, so our hope is that everyone will be able to come back comfortably in January, but since the situation changes daily we will have to wait and see!

You may email me at [email protected] or call me at the Parish Office, 480-661-9843 ex 314, Monday through Thursday. I can pick up emails when I am out of the Office, so you will get a response a lot quicker than leaving a voice mail.

Have a blessed and prayerful Advent! “Be Healthy, Be Smart and Be Holy” and please remember to pray daily with your children!

    God’s blessings,

    Kathie

FIND ON FORMED "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas," or, at least that's the assumption based on that familiar holiday song. But what does that look like at your house? Most of us

anticipate the great sales at the mall on the day after Thanksgiving, string lights on the outside of our house, and decorating the inside of our homes. But how exactly are we preparing our hearts for the greatest gift we've ever been given? Through an exploration of the mystery of the Incarnation, the Virgin Birth, and the events surrounding the arrival of Jesus, this Advent study offers an opportunity to experience the joy of the true meaning of Christmas.
